Field Tests

Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. The low-income borough of Lambeth has been largely taken over by London's mutant population and is now known as Mutant Town.

Field Tests

Postby Nailah Weaver » Tue Aug 15, 2017 5:42 pm

After a fairly uneventful ride into London, Nailah and Cam get out in one of the skeevier parts of the city.

"Alright, let's find a drug dealer to stop!" she says as she activates her power. The gem in the tiara glows a vague yellow.

"This is, what. The drug dealer store? Or something?"

Cam was way, way more hesitant getting out of the van, but he followed Nailah. His confident walk and rapid-fire staccato speech patterns had slowed down to an extreme degree as he checked something on his wrist-mounted wrist....thing.

"Kinda. It's the crummy part of town where you can buy drugs from said drug dealers." she says as she heads down the road as if she has a particular destination in mind. The buildings around them are mostly warehouses or abandoned shops. What few people are on the street look like they're homeless, carrying dirty backpacks or shoving shopping carts full of junk around.

Cam carefully followed Nailah, glancing around.

"You think they could find a better location to work out of," he frowned, feeling the eyes of the world on him.

"Of course," Cam frowned.

"What do we do? Do we go up to someone and go, boy, we'd sure like to buy a lot of drugs? If there's one thing we enjoy, it's ingesting illegal substances to alter our perceptions and form crippling dependency habits?"

"I will spot you it's a very good test," Cam admitted. "Just seems like this, in general, is an odd way to spend an afternoon, and not a particularly effective way to fight crime," he said, continuing to look around nervously.

"Hmm?" she 'asks' and is about to follow up on Cam's evaluation of her approach to this when she spots a group of suspiciously suspicious people and she saunters over to them. Usually she'd make more of an entrance, but she's not in costume, so she just walks up to them with her wings folded tightly on her back. Her feet and tail still give her away but it's not as obvious. "Sup?" she asks the group in general.

The group cracked up at that. "Ahh, piss off," the first one said, waving his hand and turning his back to Nailah.

"Ey, who's the batty boy with the Cyberman getup back there? He's a wassy-lookin' donk, innit?" another one chimed in.

Nailah frowns. She missed the specifics but she's not naive enough to miss when she's being made fun of. And as dorky as Cam might be in his get-up, that doesn't mean that these sleazeballs get to mock him for it. So she doesn't question it too much when her power pops the next step into her mind. She grabs the guy who turned his back by his jacket with both hands and gives him a shove forward to unbalance him as her wings snap open and she starts hauling him up into the air with gritted teeth. Carrying her own weight is easy enough, but lifting up this punk as well is putting some strain on her for sure.

"Oy! What th..." the punk shouted, as he found himself swooped up into the sky.

Flailing and kicking, he tried to get himself loose from Nailah's grasp.

Meanwhile, his buddies on the ground pulled out switchblades. "They're muties! Perforate the bastards!" one shouted, as the lunged at Cam, who backpeddled and fumbled with one of the pouches on his belt.

"Merk the bastards!" he shouted, calling Nailah's bluff, and trying to swing a kick up into her face. It was probably not very effective, as this wasn't exactly something you practice on the streets.

Cam had fumbled open his pockets and held a small Silly Putty-type egg in each hand. "I'm...I'm warning you! Stay back, ruffians, or face the...the wrath of science!."

Surprisingly, that threat didn't stop them from advancing on him.

Unfortunately for the guy Nailah doesn't think particularly highly of people like him. And she learned a bunch of her crime-fighting from Onyx. So she drops him on top of one of his friends who are threatening Cam. Not from very high, but enough that it'll hurt.

"Gah!"

*THWUMP*

Down went the thug (due to gravity) and the other thug (due to be hitting on the head by the aforementioned thug).

Cam, meanwhile, cracked the two eggs together, and quickly flung them at one of the OTHER thugs. The thug simply looked confused for a moment, until a stiff foam started rapidly, and explosively, expanding, beginning to encase him (and any nearby buddies) like a straight jacket.

"What the fuck?"

Cam nodded...but the foam kept expanding, enveloping the thug's arms and working it's way up his chest.

"Hrm. Perhaps there was a bit too much accelerant there..." Cam mused.

"Fuckin' muties," the remaining, un-foamed thug said, dropping his knife and sticking his hands up. "What, you want my wallet?"

"That's why we're field testing this, so we can find the answer to that question out," Cam nodded. "There's always problems to iron out in new technology."

"Jesus fuck, man!" the foam-encased thug shouted.

"Right, right, right, we don't want no trouble," the one Nailah was interrogating said. "Let's just leave and it's all cool, right?"

Nailah moves and makes a grab for the guy's wrist, more specifically trying to jam her fingers between his thumb and index finger to make him drop any potential weapon he might be pulling out. The hue of the tiara shifts towards more of an orange.

"Hmmm," Cam frowned, watching the tiara change colors. He made no move to stop Nailah, though.

The thug was, indeed, going for a weapon -- a switchblade of some sort. If Nailah's power didn't warn her about THAT in time, it's not unlikely at all that she'd get cut, though actually stopping the thug from using it was a simpler matter.

There was a (pleasing?) pop and a stifled scream as Nailah wrenched on the punk's arm. The knife did slash across her palm before clattering to the ground, drawing a thin line of red.

He gave her an address in an apartment complex in Peckham. Obviously, they didn't know if it was correct or not, but Nailah's intuition implied that it probably would be.

It had, at least, stopped creeping up the thug, who looked like he had just popped out of some kind of foam-based hay baler.
