Stake-Out/In

Chelsea isn't a huge place, but the sun is nearly down before Sam begins to get a weird feeling from one of the high end (even for Chelsea) houses. It's one of the larger houses and actually has a small bit of separation from the others with bits of landscaping that probably looks quite pretty when it's not December.

Sam narrows her eyes, gritting her teeth. Something seems to ruffle her hair for a moment, though there's no wind at the moment.

"...I think that's them," she says vaguely, not gesturing anywhere yet.

"Which one? All these rich white people houses look the same," Diego observed.

Sean pulled the car to the side of the road. He looks over towards the houses and opens his senses to the threads of magic around them wondering if he could get a confirmation of where Sam was indicating the hive was.

“Seems like an appropriate neighborhood for a bunch of immortals,” Sean said while he looked around.

There was definitely magic in the area, all of a warding nature, but they were subtly placed on a variety of houses and seemed mostly concerned with dampening any divining or scrying magics looking into the area.

"Uhh... are they really immortal if you can kill them with a sharp piece of wood?"

Diego also turned his eyes to the house in question. He had expected something gothic with a bat problem. This looked normal, mansion-wise, which he guessed was the point.

"Okay... what now?"

"We need a way in that isn't just going to get the police called."

"The wards around the neighborhood are mostly concerned with warding from diving or scrying," Sean said, "Can't make a portal because I've never been inside, but I could make us mostly invisible long enough to get inside. Provided they don't have a magus on guard watching for intruders."

Sean also didn't want to use a portal because it made people rather... nauseous if they'd never used one before. Also Sean had only done it a couple of times, but perhaps that was best left unsaid that it was possible somebody could be left between dimensions or in pieces.

"If they do, what can do about it? 'Cause my dad's head would literally explode if I got arrested because an evil wizard butler caught me."

A couple of cars pull up to the front of the house and some elegantly dressed 'people' get out of the vehicles, making their way up the front steps. The door seems to preemptively open for them and they're admitted without too much trouble. Sam can feel her stomach twisting as she observes them. They should most definitely not be walking around. The cars pull away after a brief moment, heading off who knows where.

Sam grits her teeth again, and her eyes focus on the middle distance.

"...tell me how long you need to do that, Sean. Tell me what we need to do."

"I can assist." Vivienne stepped up beside Sean.

"Appreciated, with your help this should only take a moment," Sean said, "Just need one of your hands to embed the spell."

Vivienne would notice that thee spell wasn't terribly complex, but together they consumed a fair amount of energy. Th working was several obscuring spells layered onto one another removing the person from multiple planes of perception. Sean looked relieved to have her assistance as it was simpler to spread the energy across multiple practitioners. Sean worked to embed the spell dinto their hands once they were offered. A magic circle appeared. A runic language seemed to come from within their hands to the surface of their skin. Sena chanted words that weren't part of any known language. A window shuddered and the cat frame groaned as reality was bent.

At first, it felt like nothing beyond static electricity, hairs standing on end. Then the whole body felt as if it was being wrapped in liquid. A sensation that faded somewhat after a moment or two. If anybody looked they'd see their reflections vanishing from mirrors and that they no longer cast a shadow. Sean's eyes glowed brightly as he finished the spell and the car seemed to still again, no longer strained by magic.

Diego had just finished documenting the vampire's cars' license plate numbers when he saw his reflection vanish. Looking back and forth at his hand, he said, "Jinkies."

For her part she let Sean work, watching him carefully. Once finished she uncapped a water-skin at her hip, with her free hand she pulled the clear contents from it. The water moved around the two casters, to Sean he would see the water "filling in" any gaps, smoothing the edges before moving out to the others and creating a shimmery mirror-like layer over the group.

"Can't be too careful." She said with a smile.

"Quite, rather our surprise entry didn't backfire," Sean smiled watching Vivienne work before checking the enchantments on his equipment before looking at Sam and giving her a thumbs up.

Viviene would notice the runes on Sean's skin glowing dully, smudged, runes for containment possibly. It was hard to understand, the language was... archaic even by Fey standards. Something to talk to Sean about later perhaps.

Diego double-checked the makeshift stake holster at his hip that certainly wasn't part of a Halloween costume and nodded. It looked silly but he had insisted he needed them to make up for his lack of magic, knowledge, and the ability to have stabbing implements as hands. "I'm as ready as the token muggle can be."

Gemma wasn't carrying any visible weapons, "A house like this might have a servant's entrance in the back. Don't know how much noise it would cause breaking in there, but it'd be less visible than the front door."

"Then let's go," Sam says, getting out of the vehicle and skirting around the property.

Sean follows Sam as she skirts the property. He keeps his eyes open for a magus on watch, but is hoping the vampires are overconfident in their little fortress of wealth and didn't leave a bunch of sentries.

The property itself wasn't visibly closely watched and even if it was, Sean and Vivienne's spells seemed to keep them out of sight as they progressed around the property. They do see a couple of people watching out the windows upstairs, but the people don't seem to see them. The alley behind the house was shared by a number of houses and seemed to be designed to accommodate small delivery vans. Light spilled from a small window in the back door of the building, illuminating a small patch of the alleyway. This much closer, Sam could begin to pick up stray thoughts of the household staff, mostly concerned with getting food ready, replenishing food and drink at the party, and not making a mess.

Diego followed as silently as the jungle cat he partially resembled.

"If you can distract them, I can climb up and get in through a window."

"...fine."

Sam reaches out with her mind towards those at the windows, trying to draw their attention to a suspicious noise in the alleyway a good ways away from the group.

A couple of the windows clear out as the guards move elsewhere. One of them touches his ear as he moves, saying something as he moves. The upstairs guards become visible at another window, but a guard also steps out the back door, moving in the direction of the supposed sound and away from the group.

"See you on the flipside then," Diego said. He channeled his inner beast's climbing prowess and got started. With his feline grace, claws, and few well-timed jumps, he began working his way up the walls of the alleyway up to the window. Hanging next it with one arm like some bizarre monkey, he peeked inside and, if the coast was clear, would slip inside.

"I'll go with him," Gemma says, darting towards the house and springing lightly up after Diego, bouncing off small outcroppings and window sills with grace that might be amazing to anyone but Vivienne.

The coast upstairs was mostly clear, the window apparently adjacent to a nicely appointed hallway. The interior of the upstairs didn't seem to match the age of the house, as if the house had been extensively remodeled at some point.

In the alley, the guard was being pretty thorough about poking around the bins and alley nooks where the upstairs guards had sent him.

Sean followed Sam towards the back door. He tried to keep an eye on the guard investigating the alley the last thing they wanted was them seeing a door open itself.

The back door was slightly ajar. They slipped in as the guard turned around and began to move back in the direction of the door. As they slipped through the door, Vivienne and Sean could feel something picking away at their spells. It wasn't immediately gone, but the structure of the spells were beginning to corrode. They were in a small mud room with a small side table. There was another guard seated at the table, looking as if he was waiting for his buddy to come back so they could finish some sort of card game.

Diego Zapata wrote:"Getting anything magic-ey?" Diego whispered as he kept his enhanced senses alert.

"Not really?" Gemma says, looking back at the window curiously. The upper hallway seemed to follow the outer contour of the building. It was very quiet up here. What noise there was seemed to be coming from the direction of the front of the house. Down the hallway, one of the doors opened and a young woman dressed in a floor length black gown stepped out of the door, closing it behind her. To Diego's eyes, she had a slight flickering, pale aura around her.

"The spells are beginning to fail, so we're not going to able to sneak around much longer," Sean said quietly feeling the weave of his and Vivienne's spells beginning to fray.

He began doing just that.
