Stake-Out/In

Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. The low-income borough of Lambeth has been largely taken over by London's mutant population and is now known as Mutant Town.

When Sean hurls the spear Miriam dives for a cocktail table and goes tumbling down with it. But with the blinding light no longer obscuring the group she caught a glimpse of a much too familiar face and when someone calls out the Battle Crow the sinking feeling in her stomach gets worse somehow. Bloody hell, what's she doing here!?

Diego Zapata wrote:"Yeah, well, neither is drinking people," he countered with an instinctual growl. He flashed the claws of his other hand towards the vampire's pretty face, hoping the creature would flinch away so he could break free and press the attack with a kick.

She flinched back, coming back around just in time for Diego to connect with the kick. She fell back through the punch table, spilling it everywhere. Behind him, Gemma presses her back against his, her armor flaring into existence as she raises a shield to block the shards that Sean's spell is throwing around the room.

Elsewhere, Sam's having limited success pulling the stolen life from the vampires. It seems anchored to their bodies almost like a human soul. It's old magic and not easily undone, but the act of trying seems to be causing pain at the very least as they grab their chests and stagger around. Her phone stops vibrating and then starts rapid vibrating as if someone is sending her several text messages in short order.

Behind Vivienne, she hears the resolution of the heavy footfalls as the security squad comes into view, guns drawn and leveled in her direction. Not recognizing her, they don't wait for confirmation before they begin firing.

Sean's spell seems to be causing the desired amount of havoc, though not so much havoc that a vampire doesn't see him and charge at him with superhuman speed.

On the ceiling, something that looks like smoke begins to pour from the mounting of the chandelier.

At about the same time the vampire arrives Sean casts his spell. He thrusts his hands forward and white hot flames erupt in a narrow cone at the vampire coming towards him.

"Break in three... two... break!" Diego said before launching himself at the downed vampire. A kind of warrior instinct took over and this time he didn't hesitate as he drove the stake toward its necrotic heart.

Sean tried to avoid the blow at the last moment, but was only somewhat successful. The punch hit his shoulder and it knocked Sean back into a table, which was probably the only thing that prevented him spinning to the ground. It did however force the cone of flame up towards the ceiling while he went backwards before he could stop the spell to avoid lighting a teammate on fire. Sean looked at the Vampire a deep and unnerving blood lust rising to the surface within him and with it a spell he wasn't aware he'd known that he spat at the vampire. The floor cracked from the force of the spell as Sean used what most would consider dark magic, though Sean would likely argue otherwise. Perhaps a dozen dozen runed shadowy tentacles seemed to force their way into their plane to try and drag the vampire through to wherever it is they'd come from.

She blinks in confusion, but quickly regains some of that righteous wrath.

"What's wrong with me is that I thought this could be sorted out without resorting to violence." she says as she angrily stalks towards Sam. "But lo and behold, here's Samantha 'Morrigan' McManus to punch her way to a solution again because she doesn't know how to do anything else. Wanda's safe and sound right where I left her, you bloody idiot. I try. I really try. But every time life kicks me down, guess who shows up to get a few good licks in." As she gets close to Sam she reaches down to grab one of the feet of the table she kicked across the room and with less effort than she should need lifts it up and swings it right at Sam in one swift motion.

Miriam doesn't notice what's on the phone as it skitters away, she's too busy bringing the table about to swing it at Sam again. She's a shapeshifter who thinks she might be a Goddess of War and sleeps with a werewolf. She can probably take it. But instead she hears Wanda's voice and she freezes, still holding the partially broken table as she stares at Wanda.

Sean gestures towards another group of vampires sending a signal to whatever the tentacles are a part of to head in that direction. A small angular magic circle is visible on the hand he uses to direct the... whatever it was. Small sparks arc between the runes.

Bianca's only superhuman to a point and the terror of the oncoming claws freezes her in her tracks, allowing Diego to ram the claws into her chest. The blue flames start to lick at her and soon she's engulfed in the blue flame, turning rapidly to ash with a horrible scream.

The guard clutches at his chest, obviously in a great deal of pain. Gemma comes from nowhere, slamming into the guard shield-first and knocking him back into the hallway. She plants her feet and the rainbow shield grows wider and taller than she is, blocking the hallway. "Gather yourself, Lady! Revenge is for when you've lost!" She grunts as the guard begins to beat on the shield, but it holds. She's obviously injured, but she's standing and if Vivienne had to guess, Gemma's previous opponents are not.

Wanda takes a few steps down the stairs. Unlike most of the party goers, it's readily apparent enough that she's very much alive. She lifts her hands, basking in the rain. Miriam and Sam can both sense that she's basking in the power as much as the indoor weather. Another rumble of thunder, louder this time, and what's left of the electric lights begin to flicker ominously. "Here we are, throwing a very nice, *respectable* party and you five just have to go and ruin it." Lightning strikes the banister of the grand staircase, showing Sam, Sean, and Vivienne (and by proximity Miriam) with sparks. "This... upsets me."

Sean looked distant as he guided the tentacles from victim to victim. He felt a strange kinship with the creature, a bond of some kind. His reverie was broken by the lightning and shower of sparks. He raised an open hand between him and Wanda, the rings on that hand glowing dully.

The rifts expanded as he lost focus on the spell and he made a split second decision. He left himself open as he began dismantling the summoning spell lest it begin murdering them all.

There was a bright flash and the crack of thunder. After the flash faded Sean was still there a smoke curling from his body as he hid behind a cracked glowing shield. Miriam groans as she slowly gets up from the floor, one hand on the wall to steady herself as her eyes dart around the chaos of the room. "I only tried to protect you, Wanda..." she says, probably too quiet to hear over the fighting. "This isn't you, this is... somebody must have done something to you." she goes on as she seems to gather her strength as much as her anger.

"Who did this to her!?" she finally bursts out, the question, no the demand ringing out through the room and everyone's minds.
