"Hello sir, pleasure to meet you.

Though that seems only half true. She seems to have stolen some of her looks from her mother as well.

Like a doppelganger."
He joked.

"Too true young man, too true! It is how I always say, people see us and call us 'Beauty and the Beast' but I hardly think it's fair to call my wife a beast."

Colette's mother wore the expression of a woman who had heard that dad joke countless times before and shoved her husband's arm for his efforts. "Michael, behave yourself. You are making such an awful first impression. And on Christmas no less."

Basil thought about making the obvious joke about not caring about his rival's birthday, but bit his tongue on it.

"He's fine Madame Sabine. " Basil laughed. "How do the two of you celebrate Christmas there?"

"Oh, the same as everyone else I suppose. Though perhaps a little more casual this year as it was just the two of us." Colette hugged Basil a little more tightly in response.

"Yeah a nice meal, a tree was decorated, a few presents... it probably was not much different that yours. Oh, know you do not celebrate it yourself young Basil, though I hope that you enjoyed it all the same."

Basil internationally did not mention that he had offered to bring her around for Cheistmas, fearing how they might respond.

"Technically you're right, but I don't see any harm in it if it makes Colette happy. Plenty of people without religion do. And any reason to stuff myself full of food is a good thing."

Teeny lie, he enjoyed booze more, but he figured that too was not a thing to say to the parents upon first meeting.

"How right you are young Basil. I have to admit that we are not particularly religious in our celebrations either, though for obvious reasons." Michael smiled. "Sabine is still upset at the church for refusing to wed us."

"They had no right to! You are a baptised Catholic." Colette's mother bore an expression that Basil might find eerily familiar. It seemed that going from reserved and pleasant to a broiling passion in an instant was hereditary. The red-hued man gave his wife a gentle side hug and whispered something into her ear which resulted in her slapping his shoulder but allowing her outrage to dissipate.

"It's not uncommon for religious institutions to bar members from wedding for dumb reasons.

But that's what sea captains are for."

"Or in our case, the mayor."

"And it is rather fortunate that he required that objections had to be made in person." Paulette still had that familiar grumpy look about her, one that had her husband regretting ever bringing up the subject.

"Did he also lock the doors or cut business hours? That would have been very unfortunate for those who were looking to file said complaints."

"He did not need to. They were too cowardly to do anything in person."

Michael gently patted his wife's shoulder. "Eh heh. Well now it feels like Christmas. I guess it is safe to say that we do not visit with Colette's grandparents very often."

Basil decided not to bring up the fact that the temple would never marry the two of them for very different genetic reasons.

"Well then, they can find someone else to ferry their old asses to the pharmacy, I think. I hear you have Uber?" He joked in a bit bolder fashion, hoping to turn the feeling of the conversation a bit lighter.

"Yes it is their loss that they don't get to see how beautiful of a granddaughter they have."

Colette was looking pretty embarrassed about the entire conversation but had kept quiet.

Basil tilted his head in the fashion he did when he was curious, but it wouldn't be obvious to anyone but Colette as the gesture was too small to catch on camera.

"So what do the two of you when during the rest of the year? When Colette speaks of you, it's mostly of happy childhood memories."

Colette's father chuffed a bit at the question, apparently amused. "What do we do? The same thing you will be doing once you get your degree - we work."

"I am not certain that is entirely what he meant, Michael."

"It's an answer. What sort of work?"

"Yes. I am currently the campus library assistant. You need a lesser degree to work as such, and while I still have on the books schoolwork to go, much of the degree for librarian is on the job training based.

I got my lesser at Oxford."
Basil was not sure of the french word for 'undergraduate'.

"Impressive." Colette's father nodded his head in an approving manner. "Though I would have expected for a young man like yourself to pursue business. I could see you serving as an executive at some multinational firm and eventually managing a football team. Is that not how that usually goes?"

"Papa, Basil is not like that." Colette finally spoke up, apparently taking some little offense at her father's comment.

"It's fine." Basil assumes this was the first real test he was being thrown. Thankfully, what he expected Michael wanted to hear was also the truth.

"I do have a head for money, though not like my father. Numbers are not my strong suit, but I am good at saving and have people who have helped me invest the majority of my allowance.

Football teams aren't usually bought as investments.

Also, I am not much for street rioting."
He joked.

"Not much for street rioting? Then you will not be moving to Paris, protesting is practically a national sport there."

Paulette gave her husband's thigh a soft pat as she shifted forward, closer to the tablet screen. "Oh, my second shift will be starting soon." She turned toward the screen with a matronly smile. "Merry Christmas honey, and to you as well Mister Benson. Thank you for everything you have done for her. It... it is most kind of you."

Basil was a bit concerned and confused by her wording, but chalked it up to a language barrier.

for now.

"Of course. Being her boyfriend means looking out for her, like she looks out for me.

Merry Christmas."
He greeted back, then fell silent, letting Colette say her goodbye to her parents.

"Ugh, I am sorry Basil, I did not expect zem to be... zat way."

Basil shrugged. "It didn't bother me.

People like to tell their story, and I am sure precious few will listen to theirs.

Besides, they have a reason to tell me. They're concerned."

"Oh, I should give Chisaki a call and zank her for ze lovely gift." She tapped on her tablet a few times before the call was sent out.

It took a bit for her to answer. So long in fact that one might think she wasn't going to.

But finally, she did with an exclamation of "Moshi Moshi!" as if they were on the telephone.

She was wearing her kigurumi and a mint green wig and bright red contacts.

"Merry Christmas Colette and Benson-senpai!"

"Yes, more or less.

I am tired. I worked all day." She replies. She seems to be on the floor. In the background behind her there is a set of feminine legs milling about, but the attached torso cannot be seen.

"My itoko!" She exclaims, reaching out to pull her legs out from under her.

The other woman cried out "Oh fuck!" With an English accent, falling in a blur of black flood of the floor.

"Say hello Kiki!"

"Who?" Chisaki asked, letting go of her captive and sitting upright to stare at the screen. In a moment or two one of those stocking'd legs kicked her in the side of the head, pinning her to the ground with her face towards the tablet she was using for the video call. Chisaki was giggling like a madman, clearly she enjoyed this game.

Now overtaking most of the screen was a blackclad figure of a female with green eyes and hair the colour of cinnamon, cut into a short bob. She was definitely Chisaki's senior, but it was difficult to tell by how much. Her clothes looked similar to something Chisaki might wear but, again, there was no colours. "She's talking about me..." the woman clarified.

Colette, having not grown up with any siblings or close cousins, was not used to the concept of roughhousing. So her upset expression from the fight going on before her was probably rather amusing to Basil. "Oh, please do not fight, it is Christmas!"

When things had settled down a bit she offered Kiki a little wave. "Oh, hello Madame. Happy holidays!"

""Hello."She... greeted(?) back.

"This is my cousin, Kiwa Torikawa.

Kiki, this is Colette Rosenhof and Basil Benson. They are my senpai from the University."

"Chisaki talks about you. A lot." The more she spoke, the more obvious her English accent was. Since she was still, it was also more apparent that she was not wholely Japanese.

"Children rarely talk about old people." Kiwa let Chisaki up from her spot pinned on the floor, and relented the camera time she had accidentally taken away from Chisaki back to her, going to mill in the background to prep the bedding.

"Uuusssoooooo! That is not true! I just do not refer to you by name because no one knows who you are." Chisaki huffed as she fixed her wig.She hadn't realized it, but the only person she had really ever mentioned Kiwa to was Diego.

"How is your holiday Colette-Senpai?"
