In a borealic iceberg came Victoria...

Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. The low-income borough of Lambeth has been largely taken over by London's mutant population and is now known as Mutant Town.

In a borealic iceberg came Victoria...

Sam makes her way through Victoria Station with Tereza, wincing at spots due to the number of people she has to comb through.

Miriam's job may be easier, as gingers are highly visible.

Tereza wanders over to the news stand, making a show of perusing the offering while she tries to pick up some sort of trail. Direction's hard to tell from scent and she has to make a fair bit of assumptions about how her prey is behaving.

WIth a couple hundred thousand people going through Victoria Station every day, any trail of Will was spotty, at best.

There were vaguely familiar trails all around the newsstand. One headed down towards the tube platforms, another towards the train platforms, and the third towards the members' only region in the back.

Victoria Station is a nightmare to travel through, though people give the War Goddess, the Vampire and the Hound more than a wide berth.

19 platforms, with trains leaving every two to five minutes, headed all over the UK. Eastbourne, Littlehampton, Orpington, Brighton, Epsom Downs...here, there and everywhere.

Assuming Will had gotten on one of these trains -- and the trail did seem to indicate that -- and further assuming that she wanted a direct route and wasn't planning on switching stations multiple times to throw them off (after all, she had led Miriam here?), it seemed likely she was going southeast. To head back north towards Maldon and other areas, you'd have to change multiple times, which seems like such a hassle.

That didn't excessively narrow things down, but it at least gave them a place to start looking. Where could a Will with a brainbug on the run be looking to go? Where could she hide?

The line to Brighton seemed like the best bet, from the trio's musings. The other primary line led to Dover and, presumably, a ferry to Europe...but the line to Brighton included Brighton itself (with a large mutant community, and not always the best behaved in the world), as well as Gatwick Airport, in case Will WAS trying to leave the country. That would presumably be faster than waiting for a boat.

Going through all the stations takes time, as each station in the vicinity of London is huge, and they have to check each one, not even knowing if they'll be able to find their target (after all, Will can switch forms, can't she?)

No one saw her at Clapham or Croyden or Redhill. Gatwick Airport took longer, but unless Will has disguised herself (and solved the issue of not having a passport or other documentation), she wasn't leaving the country that way. Nor had anyone seen her at Haywards Heath.

And now the train was rolling into Brighton, the end of the line, and the hunger was driving Miriam mad at this point. She would have fed on Will hours ago, and the lack of a meal is really beginning to take it's toll. It doesn't help that the sun is bound to come up at any moment.

But! A janitor has a flash of a memory of green hair going around the corner. The ticket taker remembers a woman blowing past him, changing her appearance as she went out into the street. The trail, while cold, was still there.

The path...changed, partway through. If Tereza hadn't been familiar with Will, she would have lost the scent entirely. She had had SOME experience with Will in shifted forms, however, and she was focused on the task at hand, so presumably, this NEW scent would be the one to follow now.

Unfortunatley for Tereza, the path was hours old, and so following it would be slow going. In better news, it didn't seem to be going that FAR, quickly ducking off the main road into the backstreets and shops of North Laine.

North Laine had become Brighton's default mutant area -- former slums, now a more bohemian artsy sort of place, where mutants gathered in the open. During the day, this was probably a nice little enclave, with fun shops and art and what looked like a neat pub on the corner.

At night, things were...darker. A lot less welcoming, as the trio had eyes of all colors and sizes trained on them as they walked through, strangers in a strange land.

Ordinarily a place like this would have made Tereza more comfortable. These were her people after all. But she's having to let the wolf ride her even harder to help sort through the scents and the wolf's getting antsy. The wolf keeps prodding at her, telling her that she could have a better nose for this if only she'd let them shift, but she grits her teeth and continues the slow process of following the trail.

The path ended up winding around through backstreets, ending in front of what appeared to be a tattoo parlor, with the stairs going down into a below-street-level building.
