[FotA] The Mane Event

Leo grew more and more nervous as they headed to where they were to meet Ainsley's friends. He hadn't been a wonderful human being when he lived in Lambeth and could only hope that if he had met any of them before that it had been one of his good days.

There was a trio of people chatting with each other in the spot they'd agreed upon.

A female with snakes for hair, a young man with yellow eyes, and an a completely normal looking but tall woman with a shaved head were doing a bit of rough housing and playing around while they waited.

Leo pointlessly ducked back to avoid being seen as his nerves overtook him. They were gonna hate him, he knew it.

Ainsley kept walking, despite Leo's hesitance.

When she saw Ainsley, the girl with the snakes (and all of the snakes) turned towards them.

"Lee! Over here!"

Leo gathered his courage and, though still nervous, resumed following his boyfriend. At least he didn't recognize any of them.

The quartet of them began to greet and hug one another, as a group of friends does.

But once they were done doing so, they started looking at Leo as if there was a conversation ongoing that he could not hear.

Leo fidgeted, made even more self-conscious by the nonverbal conversation he wasn't part of.

"H~hi."

"Oh! Right!" The 'normie' replied.

"Do you consent to me entering your conscious?" She asked of Leo.

"Yeah. It's how Ainsley talks to me anyway."

"Yea but that's different. He doesn't have a person's voice." She replied, and after a moment, Leo could hear everyone else's group conversation.

"I thought you went to go find Shari? Now you're dating this guy?" Leo knew from the 'normal' already providing her voice, this was the snake hair'd girl.

"You're all over the place mate."
The yellow eye'd one chimed in.

In response, a voice he did not recognize at all came out of Ainsley's 'mouth'.

"Come off it mate."

"Why don't I get that voice from you? That's just not fair," he 'said' teasingly in a voice much less deep than his physical voice.

"Voice like what?" He asked. clearly unaware of how he sounded.

"Party-Line, we weren't done grilling Lee yet." The medusa admonished.
"Sorry." Was all she offered back, rather non-committal and with a shrug.

"You actually do sound a bit like Idris Elba."

"But, by all means, keep grilling. I never get to see him squirm like this," he grinned.

What's your story, friend? "

"My story? Well, my name's Leo. I don't really have much of one before the whole mutant thing changed everything. Got kicked out by my asshole uncle and actually lived here for a little while before everything changed again when a mad scientist got to me. But I wasn't really worth knowing then. Actually hoping you didn't hear anything about me," he answered with a self-conscious chuckle.

"Not Leo alone....

What's your last name? "
She asked, finally speaking with her outside voice, which sounded the same as the inside one.

"Eskandari," he answered, trying to hide his insecurity. But, of course, Ainsley could see it.

She narrowed her eyes for a moment. "Dunno it." She finally commented.

"Let's go dancing. You'll have to share your partner with Party-Line though. Hope you're cool with that?"

"I wouldn't deny him gettin' to talk with people other than me for a change," he said with a smile.

"As for dancin', you should probably give me some space until I get my rhythm. I still misjudge my size occasionally."

"They call me Nagin." She offered.

"And they call me Kaa." The boy followed up. "We're twins."

"I'm eldest."

"Yea, cuz you shoved me out of the way to get out of the womb like it was on fire in there."

He chuckled.

"Only child here. Those your mutant names or were your parents as accidentally precognitive as mine were?"

"Mutant names. Our parents aren't that cool.

Were yours mutants?"

"Mom, no. Dad, I have no idea. He wasn't in the picture for long," he answered, his tone suggesting the matter was a sensitive subject.

"Normal for our type I think." She shrugged. "Nothing to worry about, aye?"

"Sometimes I think our parents should have gotten divorced, but don't tell them I said it." The other added.

"Let's do it!"

-----------------------------------------

The gang of young adults made their way around to the stage. The band at this point had changed out for a ska ensemble.

Immediately as his feet touched the outdoor 'dance floor', Ainsley started the weirdest little dance, a sort of shuffling in place kick.

"This is my jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmm!" He exclaimed through their new group mental link in his gruffer, sexier voice.

Generally, it hurt his metalhead pride to admit he liked any Ska. But that was a song he could get behind. The dancing, however...

Let's just call his attempt shy and stiff. Like, it was more avoidance of other people's feet than an attempt to have fun.

The others seemed to know what they were doing, even going around each other in circles, and eventually Leo. It was almost like they were protecting him from accidentally on purpose kicking someone near him. The made a sizable circle around him for him to move about in.

The extra room allowed the big guy to relax a little and actually start dancing. He wasn't even bad, just obviously very self-conscious and still holding back a bit as a result.

"Thanks guys. Now I can't bump into anybody."

"It's hard not to," he joked.

He remembered Nika's crash course in how to find his best footing and adjusted his motions so that he could better let loose without becoming unbalanced. He let the music wash over him and began to truly unwind.

The group would keep dancing together, until a slow song started up. It was obvious now what Nagin meant by having to share Ainsley.

She was *not* going to dance with her brother during this.

He'd be damned if he didn't get the first dance, so Leo was quick to swallow his performance anxiety and swoop in close to Ainsley.

"Care to dance, stranger?" he asked aloud.

"Sorry, boyfriends go first."

Nagin narrowed her eyes and allowed it to pass, but conceded and let Leo dance with his boyfriend.

Leo pulled Ainsley close and tentatively started his best slow dance. He wasn't terrible, but a little stiff and it was easy to see he was afraid of hurting his boyfriend.
