Diplomatic Infiltration

Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. The low-income borough of Lambeth has been largely taken over by London's mutant population and is now known as Mutant Town.

Diplomatic Infiltration

Postby Narrator » Sun Apr 10, 2016 12:22 am

The newly built US embassy in London has only been in use for under a year. At first glance the lack of fences and other common security features seems strange, but the landscape around it has been set up as a replacement that would escape the eyes of most people. But Chase recognizes the pond and various levels of terraced grass as the moat, trenches and barriers they represent, even if they look nice and friendly for tourists. It's late at night by this point and there's little activity outside. Most of the lights, however, are still on and Chase can spot plenty of shapes walking around inside.

If Yin Dao is indeed inside he has a significant advantage over Chase in that he could get an idea for the buildings infiltration and weakpoints. In favor for Chase is the fact that Yin's target may not be inside the building yet, though that begs the question of what exactly he's planning. He's never sparred with Yin back in his days at the Black Lotus Society, but he knows that he's a mutant by how favorable he was generally treated. That likely means his chosen name, Hidden Blade, relates to that somehow...

Just getting inside certainly wouldn't be easy, even with his skills. That would be why Yin got himself invited in. No doubt the assassin had security on the lookout for the would-be hero.

From what shadows there were, Chase looked for a weak point he could exploit.

Technically every window is a potential weakness, if he can come up with a way to force it open. It's likely reinforced glass so it'd take some oomph to break through or a clever way to lever it out. The panels covering the windows on the front are opaque and serve as protection for the window front behind it, constructed to be unscalable for a human at least. The roof likely has some sort of access into the building. There's possibly some way into the basement through the water as well. On the 9th and 10th floor a section of the building is cut away as a terrace which could be a potential entry-point as well.

Chase had stopped by the hotel room to bandage his arm and change, having thankfully been paranoid enough to bring his X-Suit along. He acrobatically made his way onto a grass terrace and sneaked to the building itself. There, he began using the panels to carefully swing himself his way up and across one by one to the 9th floor balcony.

The climb is tricky. The panels have been specifically designed to discourage this sort of thing and Chase ends up having to make a couple of death-defying jumps and swings to get from panel to panel and make his way up. The fact that people are moving around behind the windows doesn't help and when he's about halfway up, clinging to one of the opaque panels he catches a glimpse of a group of people walking down the hallway just on the other side of the glass, one of them being Yin Dao!

Aside from Yin there's two of the bodyguards from the club and two other people he doesn't recognize. They stop at a nearby elevator and as they're waiting Yin's eyes wander across the window-front, an expression on his face as if he was looking for something. Chase is almost certain that he can't see him, standing in a brightly lit room and looking outside into the darkness where Chase is clinging to one of the panels. Finally Yin's attention turns back when the elevator arrives and with a parting glance that feels like it gets a little too close to where he is he steps into the elevator, going up.

The rest of the climb is uneventful, if you consider a death-defying climb across the front of a building uneventful, and he makes it to the balcony. There's floor-to-ceiling windows along the entire thing, a couple of columns, benches and two doors. Both of them have magnetic card readers and are, presumably, locked.

He slipped over to card readers and carefully pried one open with a throwing needle borrowed from Weikun. Hopefully the wiring wasn't too state of the art to hotwire as he'd been trained.

It's pretty state of the art, but then again Chase's training is pretty damn good. After a moment of messing with the wires there's a faint clicking sound as the door unlatches. Inside Chase has a whole range of options. There's the elevators down the hall, as well as doors leading to what's probably the stairwell. There are also countless doors leading into empty offices that provide plenty of cover and hiding space if needed. It seems he probably has access to most of this floor at the very least. The rest of the building he can probably at least take an educated guess at. Ground floor is likely taken up by security, visitor areas and kiosks that separate the visitor area from the employees. There's bound to be a central security room somewhere that holds weapons as well as security camera feeds, probably in the basement.

He needed to find Yin's current location before he could do anything else. As heavily guarded as it would be, the security office was his best option. Avoiding cameras as he went, he headed downstairs.

Moving down through the stairwell while staying out of the view of the occasional security camera is time consuming, but eventually Chase makes it down to the basement. The corridor here is very bare and utilitarian, various pipes running along the ceiling. Numerous rooms containing various utilities and such line the walls, but finding the security office isn't particularly hard. Mainly because he can spot the two guards sitting inside a small station enclosed by bulletproof glass. They seem pretty damn alert, a heavy steel door behind them presumably leading to the armory and or monitoring station.

Something about the air feels tense and both him and the guards perk up as a sudden loud cracking sound echoes through the hallway, followed by the telltale sound of grinding glass as a crack appears in the thick safety window, slowly spreading through it. The guards jump up immediately, eyes darting around. One of them catches a glimpse of Chase but before he can say anything the big window on the station suddenly shatters inward with a tremendous crack, shards of security glass piercing the security guards in dozens of places and instantly killing them. It seem Yin has started to set things in motions and the first step appears to be to take out the security station down here.

It doesn't seem like Yin is actually nearby, at least he can't spot him anywhere. What he does notice is the remaining ring of what sounds like the tail end of some kind of high-pitched resonance. He can less actually hear it as he can feel it in the air, making the hairs on his body stand on end. And it suddenly occurs to him that behind the steel door in the thoroughly destroyed room is, presumably, a whole wall of monitors and silicone chips as well as at least some number of people and that Yin's probably intending to hit that next, from wherever he is...

The door is secured, but it only takes a moment of frantic fumbling to get a keycard from one of the dead guards to open the door. Inside he comes face to face with another guard who was apparently just reaching out to open the door himself to investigate the loud shattering sound. For a moment he's stunned when he sees Chase, then the complete destruction of the room and his two dead colleagues. Behind him two other guards are sitting in front of a bank of monitors, showing security feeds from throughout the building.

The other two guards get halfway through drawing their own weapons when Chase hands the gun back to the befuddled guard. As if to reinforce Chase's point the screens on one side of the room begin to show slowly spreading cobwebs of cracks. One of the two points at a monitor showing Yin standing in one of the rooms on the 10th floor, the people who were with him earlier having collapsed nearby, either dead or unconscious. His eyes are closed and his arms are angled away from his body slightly, all of his muscles tensed as he pushes the range of his abilities. The faint resonance Chase caught in the aftermath of the first attack can be felt again as the guards scramble out of the room in a panic just as the wall of monitors explodes into razor-sharp fragments.

That earns Chase a very dubious glance from one of the guards, but another makes his way into the destroyed surveillance room, glass crunching under his feet. He unlocks the weapons locker, though notably passes out assault rifles to the other two guards first. The locker holds numerous handguns, assault rifles, smoke grenades and even a number of anti-mutant foam-cylinders that are a bit clunkier than regular grenades but still intended to be thrown as such.

The elevators are presumably supported by steel cables and probably fine, but the stairs are definitely safer. It's quite a sprint to the 10th floor, but Chase is in pretty good shape. When he bursts into the hallway he can spot Yin hurrying don the hallway, glancing over his shoulder and glaring at Chase when he recognizes him.

<"Managed to get away from her, did you."> he sneers as he skids to a stop maybe 30 yards from Chase.

The grenade clinks against the glass and a heartbeat later explodes into rapidly spreading foam. The glass behind it shatters under Yin's control but doesn't go anywhere. The foam works amazingly well! It even begins to spread out along the windowfront with surprising pace. It bulges into the hallway a little bit as well, but not nearly as much as one might have expected, the substance almost seeming to mind of it's own to envelop whatever it is in contact with. Fortunately that's the length of the window.

Yin stares at the foam in stunned surprise before turning his eyes back to Chase, staring daggers at him that, thanks to the foam, he doesn't have. Instead he screams as he charges at Chase.

Yin dodges and weaves around the sticks to the best of his ability. He still takes the occasional blow, but most of them land on his arms and he diverts them enough to not have his bones broken as he tries to continually find openings to kick at Chase, finally managing to land on one his opponent's thigh, making Chase's leg buckle. Trying to press his momentary advantage he tries to follow up with an elbow blow to the face.
