Roland made attempts to grab the bear as it charged him, discarding his sword to do so.

He was certainly going over the edge; he just wanted to ensure he was not going alone.

The bear seems ready to fall, but the way it's wrestling it's trying to make sure it lands on him when they hit the ground.

The bear and the warrior tangled in midair, twisting and flipping as they rocketed towards the ground and the chaos below.

Roland had had some experience wrangling animals larger than he was, and was rather deft in his movements, despite the armor and the hornets.

"You forget yourself!" he cried, as they plummeted.

"You may as well try to grasp water..."

They're nearly about to hit the ground and Sam is beneath Finn.

At least she is for a moment, the bear locking eyes with her opponent...

...and then she isn't, ravens rushing away from Finn as they leave him to fall.

"Coward!" Roland cried, slamming into the ground with a sickening thud, a splintering crack and an echoing clang.

The crows swirl down, coalescing into Sam's avatar.

"Were you this honorable when you laid my champion low?" She asks, a spear with a thorny shaft appearing in her hands as she raises it above Finn's prone form.

She tries to kick his helmet off, to see him one last time.

"Hes not your champion," Roland slurred, through a swollen and busted jaw.

Roland had not taken the fall well -- his legs were at very unnatural angles, and his back was cracked in a very unhealthy looking fashion.

Before Sam's eyes, though, the jaw was re-knitting itself, the painful sounds of bones cracking back into place echoing through Roland's armor. His limbs were beginning to be yanked back into position, and bone that had been sticking through an exposed gap in the damaged armor retreated as muscle, sinew and flesh began to knit itself over his wounds.

"Not since you killed him, he's not..." She says, her face a mask of rage as she tries to ram the spear into the exposed gap in his armor.

Sam was able to find said gap, penetrating through woolen undergarments, skin and muscle, and finally into the ground below.

Roland gasped as the air was forced out of his lungs, and spat out a healthy dollop of blood as he was skewered.

"Th...the real Morrigan would have defended her champion. Y...you're just a bootlicking quim; a strumpet who would be queen.

Live with your failure, lass," he spat out.

"You're just a disappointment," she says as the spear starts to twist and sprout, putting down roots and shooting out branches.

"Believe what you will. I answer to...higher authority," he said, with a crazed grin on his face.

The part of Sam that's extruded into Finn resists the urge to spit on him as she retreats from his mind.

Back in the physical world, she clutches at her head as she fitfully reintegrates.

Her eyes widen as she sees Miriam is down. She scrambles over towards her... friend?

Roland had collapsed, about halfway towards Miriam, and was lying on the tile floor of his shop.

Tosh dashed in, looking worried. "Nobody was answering me on comms. What happened?"

Miriam isn't unconscious, but she's clutching her head with white knuckles and takes a while to respond. When she does she flinches away from Sam, scrambling backwards until her back hits the wall.

"Bloody hell... Next time at least be honest." she mutters, wiping her nose with the back of her hand and coming away with a bit of blood.

"Nothing..." she mumbles. Then a little more clearly. "Did you figure out what he did to Will?"

"I snooped around his workshop out back. Near as I can tell, he injected Will with a concoction of herbs and chemicals to immobilize him... or worse... and..." he answered, pausing hesitantly, "Melted him down."

"What the bloody hell are you talking about, 'melted him down'?" she asks, unsteadily getting up with her hand on the wall to keep herself from toppling over.

Tosh couldn't look either of them in the eye as he answered, "Will wasn't there. I think Finn shipped him somewhere." Both telepaths could tell that he had little hope Will would be found alive. Putting things gently was difficult when telepathy was involved.

"Chemicals or not, I refuse to believe some old bloke with a knife could kill him after all he's been through." she says through gritted teeth, making the effort to walk over to Roland and give him a swift kick.

"It might be the only way to get to the truth," he said, "Not that I think he'll be cooperative."

He tapped his comm unit. "Miss Minamida. We've got Finn but no Will. Do we bring him in?"

"Nothing recent enough that I found."

Looking to Sam, he said, "We should get him and go. I don't look forward to explaining how we aren't kidnapping an innocent business owner."

"How recent? I'm not going to leave with this asshole as our only clue." Miriam says, very much motivated by the fact that she's not sure how much she'd be able to get out of Roland.

Indeed, there was the latest book, open next to an old fashioned ink-and-quill.

A quick glance showed that, yes, it had up-to-date shipping information, up to that very morning. About a weeks' worth were in someone else's handwriting, though.
