It Is A Mystery...

Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. The low-income borough of Lambeth has been largely taken over by London's mutant population and is now known as Mutant Town.

"I would like zat." Colette whispered to Basil in return before wishing in a good day. It wasn't until he had closed the door to her room that she relaxed, letting herself flop heavily on top of the bed and letting out a contented sigh.

Chisaki ignored Colette, grabbing a packing of wipe make up removers. She somehow removed her wig without her hood dropping, and was wiping her face clean of make up.

She reached for her contact container on her nightstand, back still turned to the other girl.

Colette rolled onto her side to look at her roommate.

"Chisaki, I hope zat you do not mind zat I allowed Basil to spend ze night here. Were you home, I would not have done so."

"Not at all." She replied, back still turned to her room mate. Her tone seemed congenial, even if her body language did not.

"I do not mind if Benson-Senpai stays even when I am here, provided the two of you are just sleeping when I am present."

Colette flushed at the, well it wasn't an accusation so much as a suggestion.

"Oh, oh I would never! Chisaki, we weren't... we were just sleeping togezer, actual sleeping not ze ozer kind. Last night was only our first date, I am not zat kind of a girl!"

Chisaki stopped doing whatever it was she was doing, the back of her head physically tiled to one side.

"... What kind of girl?" Chisaki asked slowly, the confusion in her voice made it obvious Chisaki did not understand what Colette meant.

"Ze kind of girl who would be... intimate, on ze first date." Colette struggled with her phrasing, whether it was from the awkwardness of the subject or English being her second language was unclear.

Chisaki still wasn't looking at her, or seeming to understand by her voice. She stood upright, managing to remove her wig without dropping the hood, but it took two hands to do it. She then moved to place the wig on it's appropriate head, her face obscured.

"I do not think I entirely understand what you mean to express, I am sorry." She sounded a bit embarrassed.

"But I think even if I did, it may not be important. As long as you do not intend to harm and are mindful of what you are doing, I do not think it matters much. I think you should be whatever kind of girl you want to be."

Colette shifted upon her mattress, still not used to the thing. "Well, you will not look at me when you are talking to me."

Chisaki's shoulders visibly shrugged.

"Colette-Senpai, do not be sad about that. That does not have anything to do with how I feel about you. I simply do not like being looked at when I am not myself. I would not let anyone look at me right now if I could help it. "

"Some of use are born the people they were meant to be. Some of us are not so lucky.

Who I am is who I have created myself to be, and I do not like to be looked at when I am not myself. That is not because of you, I feel that way about everyone. The thought of people seeing me like this is....

uncomfortable. " She explained, deciding that seemed like the appropriate word.

"I... zink I understand, sort of." Colette said. "Every day I dress myself to try and present ozers with a me zat is serious, professional, intelligent... because when zey look at me ozerwise they just see someone gross and brainless.

"If you do not wish for me to look upon you at zis moment zen I will not do so. I do not wish you to be uncomfortable."

"Thank you."

There was an awkward pause, though it was burst by her flopping on her side like a ragdoll with a yawn, back still turned to Colette.

"You should not care so much what other people think though. It does not matter if they think you are brainless, gross, or 'that kind of girl'. All that matters is what you know to be true of yourself.

The right person will know it to be true as well. Anyone who thinks different are not the right sort of people for you."

"Well, what you say is true, yes. But..." Colette hesitated for a moment. "I want to run my own business some day, I want to make food zat makes people happy. People will not want to purchase food from someone zey zink is gross. So I must practice being professional until it comes naturally. I believe I can do zis and still be true to myself. Zen I can be whomever I want to be on my own time."

You can act however you please, but it will not convince wrong minded people into proper behaviour.

That is what she stopped herself from saying.

Instead she replied.

"I hope you get your restaurant."

Colette tittered softly. "Zank you, zough I am not zat ambitious. I just wish to open a little... what is ze English... a sweets shop? Yes, and make my own sweets."

Colette got up from her mattress and moved toward her clothing, picking up after herself from the previous night with her back to her roommate.

"What is your dream, madame Chisaki." She was starting to pick up the girl's habits in adding honorifics to names.

I am going to make clothes. The best clothes. Very good ones. For mutants."

Her words were starting to become exceedingly simple.
