Sam makes her way into the cafeteria in the less-secure portion of the Muir facilities. There wasn't time or need to run clothes from the Institute over, but she's managed to wrangle a set of scrubs in lieu of a hospital gown. She's bandaged up now, but surprisingly mobile as she starts to load up her tray.

"So they finally let you out of quarantine," said a deep, rough voice as a huge form got in line next to her. Leo hadn't even begun to get used to towering over everyone like they were children. Even speaking was alien to him now, his own voice a stranger.

"I didn't want to wind up here again," she says, looking to him.

"Half tempted to ask if they had my old room free."

He was dressed in a very big jacket with a hood that barely fit over his horns, and didn't do much to hide his leonine face.

"One cramped cage is the same as another," he grumbled, though with a haunted look in his orange eyes.

"They're trying to help here."

"I think that almost makes it worse."

"I could do without yet another constant reminder that there's something wrong with me."

"At least you're not a reject from the island of Doctor Moreau," he answered unhappily. "And why aren't you? You got his crazy virus didn't you?"

"I don't think he planned on me. I'm not... any one thing."

"What is it doing then?" he asked as he continued piling meat on his tray.

"If they knew that, I wouldn't still bloody be here," she grumbles with frustration.

"At least you know where you're going when you do get out," he muttered discontentedly.

"What do you mean? Go to the university?" he asked as if college was a foreign concept.

"Ainsley's been there awhile now."

"And do you know Shari? She's there too."

"Not very well, but I met her."

"They did bring up the option. I just... don't know. It's certainly better than embracing the beast and moving to the freaking Savage Land."

"Nothing wrong?" he retorted, almost growling, "This was done to me. This isn't just some part who I am."

"I mean there's nothing wrong with deciding that," she sighs.

"Nobody's making you do it, it's up to you where you're more comfortable."

He was silent for a long moment. "Deciding your future is what college is for, isn't it?"

"I don't know about deciding your future. I mean, that's probably what our parents would say."

"But it's a good place to find out who you really are."

"I know that less than ever," he admitted, "So... Maybe I'll give it a shot."

At least there they can stop me from hurting anyone.

"I just..."

Realizing they were showing a few cracks, his walls shored their defenses.

"Have to think about it."

"I can back off. You don't really know me."

"I mean we fought, so you kind of know me, but you were a little out of it."

"God... everyone is so afraid to call things as they are. I was an animal. And part of me still is," he said with a defensive growl. She was just too... nice.

That threw him off.

"Wh-huh? Okay, now you're just screwing with me."

"So she's really a literal werewolf, curse and all, not just a mutant?" he asked skeptically. A mad scientist turning people into monsters was one thing, but magic? That couldn't be real, could it?

"She's a mutant who got bitten by a werewolf. So she didn't have any more choice in it than you did."

he said, annoyed.
