Oh, people still yell at me. She tilts her head, putting Kat's hand right behind her ears.

"What kind of dog are you anyway? You're so bloody huge," she says as she starts dutifully delivering ear scritches.

"Like you're not a sled dog so much as the whole team."

More wolf than dog. She regrets not being able to talk, but Kat seems to actually be okay with her in this form and that's keeping her still.

"Pretty quiet when you're like this, aye?"

"Maybe that's why Sam likes you. She never knows when to shut up."

Tereza snorts, thumping the floor once with her tail. That's because she's constantly worried about what others think, so she wears her heart on her words.

"Alright," Sam says as she finally comes back into the room. "I think they understand, no- are you petting my girlfriend?"

"Why not?" Kat smirks. "She likes it."

It's alright, Sam. Tereza's ears perk in Sam's direction, but she's careful not to do anything to spook Kat.

Sam sighs, sitting down next to the both of them.

"Okay, okay. Nobody wants to fight on Christmas."

"You could've told me, you know. I've been asking Mum and Dad for a puppy for years."

"...don't push it, Kat."

If she puts a bow on me, I will be displeased. She looks at Kat and makes a sound that sounds suspiciously like 'wolf', but could just be 'dog noises.'

"She says no bows," Sam chuckles.

"What, do you speak dog now, Sam?"

"How did you put it? 'Brain stuff' has to have some advantages."

One of those advantages is that I can talk when I can't talk. Tell her the 'no trousers' perk isn't always all it's cracked up to be.

"Well I just think it would be kind of... relaxing, you know? Nobody was yelling at her right now."

"Nobody was really yelling," Sam frowns.

"She'd probably tell you she's pretty gung-ho on being different, even though she winds up a wolf sometimes."

"And what about you? It seemed so awful for you when it happened."

"Aye, but things do get better. I mean, puberty's pretty awful for normal girls, too."

"Yeah, so if I'm going to have to go through that anyway, I might as well turn into something really gnarly."

We'll have to see. Tereza stands, obviously not having much of a problem being on four legs as she noses the almost closed door open and glances at Sam for her to lead the way.

Sam makes her way down the stairs, the smells of butter, pancakes, and bacon wafting up. As she turns the corner towards the dining room her mother is there. Her eyes widen for a moment, then soften.

"Oh, you didn't tell me how pretty she was. Big, but pretty."

The soft tone seems to give Tereza some courage and she moves carefully over to Sam's mum, trying not to accidentally flick things with her tail.

That makes Tereza grin, which probably looks weird, but the idea of lots of bacon and sausage obviously tickles her wolf brain.
