[Victor Freud]

Victor raised an eyebrow. Em did want to break the reset button, didn’t she? He left it alone for now, he’s talked over enough of the movie for the moment. Besides, it was a double feature, there was a whole other second movie to talk over.

[Emilie]

Emilie periodically checked her phone, watched the film,ate snacks, and then checked her phone again.

Eventually some time into the second movie she stated - " I gots an idea for after the film."

[Victor Freud]

Victor was slowly eating the last of his popcorn, now quite cold, more because it was there than he was hungry in any way. Just vibin, quietly enjoying the movie and being near a friend.

"Oh? What kinda idea?"

[Emilie]

"The kind that makes a sports car fun."

[Victor Freud]

Victor looked to the other side, as if someone might be watching them.

"At night? Dariiiiiing."

[Emilie]

"What can I say, I'm bold."

[Victor Freud]

"Fuck it, why not? Let's fuck up his struts."

[Emilie]

"Now or after goody goody two shoes Ash wins the day?"

[Victor Freud]

"It's not like we're under a curfew anymore, right? Besides, it'd be rude to interrupt the movie for the people behind us."

[Emilie]

"Well that and I'm not done with my Jelly Babies yet." She replied.

She had eaten three of six packages.

[Victor Freud]

"Yeah, we don't want them bouncing out of the bag and spilling all over the place. That'd make a mess."

Victor tossed what remained of his open bag of now cold popcorn over his shoulder and over the back seat.

[Emilie]

"I mean, a really easy to clean organized mess sure

If we wanted to make an ungodly mess though, we'll need more liquids. "

[Victor Freud]

"True, but we want to be an annoyance, not receive a summons. Adding insult to injury, but not being worth getting revenge on."

[Emilie]

"Well then maybe we shouldn't take this bad boy anywhere else."

[Victor Freud]

"Getting butter on the seats is an obvious visible problem. Fucking up his struts? That's something he'll not be sure of at first. And by the time he does know, it'll be too late.

And if we go too far, well we just leave it parked in a tow-away zone and catch the train. They can't prove it didn't happen when it was being impounded."

[Emilie]

"Listen man, you in or what? This ride ain't getting any cooler. "

[Victor Freud]

"When did I say I was out? Hell yeah I'm in. Nothing wrong with having an escape plan."

[Emilie]

"Alright then. We'll finish Bruce's Magnum Opus, then ride this steed hard and leave it out wet."

[Victor Freud]

"Sounds like a plan." Victor shut his mouth and turned his attention back to the movie, as though that would make it play faster.

[Emilie]

After the films, Emilie took Victor on a little drive out into the country.

"Haley told me about this place. Apparently the invisible git took her out here to cheer her up once."

[Victor Freud]

"The librarian? I never figured he'd be one for off-roading."

[Emilie]

"That's because you're still wet behind the ears." She replied with a smirk.

"Life lesson kid: People like Basil Benson? They are always hiding things.

Remember when you said I look like I got thoughts in my head? That I'm 'cultivatin' a look'?

He's doing the same goddamn thing, only in reverse. People like him, they've learned that if they put on the government mandated uniform of their social class and place themselves in a boring environment that other people will let them fly under the radar.

He's hidin' in plain sight alright. Jus' not the way everyone else thinks he is."

[Victor Freud]

"You think that's why he's always invisible? 'cause he's trying to hide somethin' so hard that his powers are firin' all the time?"

[Emilie]

"Shit dude. That's deep." She replied, but she did seem to be thinking about the question genuinely instead of blowing off conversations about the librarian like she normally would have.

" I mean, maybe. They say people who have control issues usually got psychological hang ups as well. Maybe his brain is saying he don't wanna be seen, and since his body can actually do that now, it's just trying to translate that emotion into a command function it can actually use."

[Victor Freud]

"If so, he should talk to, the councillor. I know it helped me a lot. I used to wake up trapped in my sheets, or fall into my shoe at any jump scare."

[Emilie]

"Awww. I miss that." She replied, then focused back on the situation at hand.

"ANYWHO, let's see what this baby can do!" She replied, immediately punching it.

[Victor Freud]

"Oh, that's the one thing that doesn't get old to you?"

When Em hit the gas Victor's hand instinctively grabbed the handle above the door - they're intended to assist people in climbing in and out of the vehicle, but growing up his older brothers had always referred to them as "holy shit handles".

[Emilie]

Emilie actually handled the car pretty well, all things considered. Slippery English countryside didn't seem to affect her control of the vehicle at all.

Sliding and swerving all over the cleared , graveled area at a whim, her grin widening into mania as she let off one of her battle cries.

As the car spun out she began laughing, gaining enough control to make sure they didn't tip over.

Then she dissolved into a crazed sort of laughter when the car came to a slamming halt.

[Victor Freud]

Victor wasn't sure what he'd been expecting, but it wasn't this. He thought that she'd be trying her hand at some sort of rally track, something with bumps and dips and curves. This was more like flailing around in a field. Even with his hand gripping the handle tightly the seatbelt needed to engage and hold him in his seat when the car slammed to a halt, the cloud of gravel-dust risen around them illuminated by the Jag's high beams.

"... I'm beginning to reconsider your position as getaway driver."

[Emilie]

"Car didn't roll did it?" She asked from behind her creepy grin.

[Victor Freud]

Victor pursed his lips and tilted his head to the side, looking away in thought before slowly nodding his head.

"You're right, that is true."

[Emilie]

"You think police officers in pursuit are going to leave me with ideal driving conditions?" She asked a bit more pointedly.

[Victor Freud]

"Also true. And it's good to know that you can handle a car like this in conditions like this. Most people would cut across a field out of desperation and get mired in the muck.

"Though hopefully we won't need to worry about police chases."

[Emilie]

"Never worry, always plan."

[Victor Freud]

"Wise words that I will take to heart."

[Emilie]

"So should I push it further? Try some donuts or something?"

[Victor Freud]

"It hasn't broken yet. It can definitely stand to get muddier." And Vic needed to steel himself for future rides together.

[Emilie]

"If you say so!" She replied, and proceeded to take Vic on the most harrowing ride of his life.

Over the course of an hour, Emilie finally had to stop because they were running low on gas and they needed to get the vehicle back on the grounds. She seemed to have gotten all of her manic nonsense out though, so perhaps that was a good thing.

"Home then?" She asked.

[Victor Freud]

Eventually, one gets used to chaos. All of the white-knuckledness had been pushed out of Victor, until he too was whooping and laughing at some of the twists and turns. After all, she had A LOT of years of experience doing this.

"Yeah, I think so. I dunno about you but I'm getting worn out. And I'm not even the one behind the wheel."

[Emilie]

"I could use a nap.

And a drink.

A drink and then a nap. A drink and a smoke and a nap."
