Russian Hospitality

Postby Ashlie Minamida » Thu Dec 10, 2015 8:28 pm

For most of the journey, the Quinjet is just racing through the air above the blue-grey of the sea. It's a little bit unsettling to be flying in a plane that doesn't have anybody sitting in the pilot seat, especially one that is moving at over twice the speed of sound, but Ashlie assured them that the location of the pilot is really just a minor detail. As they approach the Russian border the plane slowly sinks in altitude until the ground is uncomfortably close. It's almost impossible to make out details on the ground but the screens tell them they've passed the border and are rapidly approaching their destination.

"Arrival in T minus 5 minutes." Ashlie's voice chimes through the speakers. "Prepare for departure. We'll slow down for two minutes to tighten the drop-window but if I set down we risk detection. You all have emergency beacons. I can have the plane back here and landed at the closest possible location within 5 minutes to evacuate you. Good luck."

"Not a big fan of jumping out of a plane, to be honest," Will nodded.

"I agree with that." said Nash, who was actually more nervous about what would happen once they were on the ground than the method of getting there.

He had mentioned earlier that he had some experience but only in the danger room and under more normal circumstances.

It's a little bit stomach-lurching, throwing yourself out of the back of a moving plane. The ground is much closer than feels comfortable and for a couple of seconds it races towards them before the parachutes deploy and they're suddenly jerked into a relatively serene descend towards the woods below. Most of what they can see is forest, the hints of a town on the horizon and the occasional road snaking through the landscape. One thing that does stand out like a sore thumb even in the distance is a squat concrete structure that would usually blend into the forest if it wasn't for the huge scorched area drawing attention to itself and the small road that leads to it through the woods.

Above their heads the jet roars to live and shoots away into the distance.

There's maybe some faint traces. Depending on how old the destruction is most of it might just have evaporated. It smells like, well, mostly like ashes and scorched earth.

There are cameras at the actual entrance itself but nothing that seems to be aimed at the forest so at least for now they should be undetected. Nash would also pick up on the door with it's combination keypad as well as the elevator mechanism the concrete structure is housing.
