"Do you regularly make compromises that actively hurt yourself?"

"You know exactly what I mean, though I suppose it's foolish to expect you to admit that. So what now? Are you going to give me the grand tour and send me on my way? I'm afraid there's not much use confiscating my recording equipment, I got a pretty good memory."

"I'm going to give you the grand tour," the Major confirmed. "And send you on your way.

But I'm afraid you won't be alone."

"You're going to have to elaborate on that." she says as the drone folds out it's legs and retracts the treads to better be able to move around on solid ground.

"It's become clear we can't trust you to behave on your own. Starting immediately, you will have an observer on campus."

"Unacceptable. Many of my students fled from the Mutant Registration Act, I won't expose them to observation by the US anymore than they already have been thanks to that satellite of yours."

"Well, you have another option.

Return the 70-N."

"I'd tell you that he's a person, but somehow I get the feeling you wouldn't believe me or care. Instead I'll give you a counter-offer. You give me access to the Dig through this drone and in return you get the results of the dimensional mechanics research that'll come out of it. Not that I question the expertise of your people here, but I can work out there without getting tired or cold and I'm smarter than most."

The Major just laughed. "What possible reason would I have to trust you with anything at this point, Minamida? You've already threatened to upload all of this to the internet; I'm authorized to destroy you several times over. It's my general good nature that's keeping you even on speaking terms at the moment."

"I thought I'd show some good will and offer something beneficial to everyone that'd allow you to supervise my activities while I'm here, but I suppose when it comes down to it you only speak one language. If I find any attacks or intruders at the school the next thing I send down here won't be loaded with scientific equipment. I don't want to fight, but I will if you leave me no choice." she says, sounding disappointed.

"You're the one dictating the terms here, Minamida. We had no quarrel with you until you decided to poke your nose where it didn't belong."

"Only according to the rules of the game you rigged. Though I'm not exactly sure what you want from me when you laugh at me for considering to play by them."

"I want you to back to your university and forget about all of this. Forget about this base, forget about me, forget about everything.

You've made it abundantly clear what you think about this base and it's mission, and I'm disappointed you want to hurt humanity. Not a great stance for the headmistress of a school of mutants to take."

"You're spoonfeeding the world because you don't think it could handle this. You won't even give people the chance to prove you wrong out of fear. But don't worry, I won't mention this to anybody. Unfortunately I'm pretty good at not revealing secrets intentionally."

"That is one of the many reasons we entrusted you with the 70-N.

And because we DID feel that was the best environment for it's continued growth. I do hope it's doing well," he said, honestly.

"'It' is a mutant from another universe and is doing just fine, thank you. He remembered how this came to be so please tell your scientists that all of this was likely pulled through a black hole and that they're sitting on the key to deciphering the origins of our universe before they waste their time trying to reverse engineer more phones and tablets. Tell them Dr. Poplawski's theory might be right."

Major Briggs had an excellent poker face.

"Mmm," he said, noncommittally. "That's certainly an interesting theory. I'll be sure to mention it to the...boffins, is what you call them, yes?"

"Scientists, usually." she says as she quickly tries to estimate how large the buried structure might be based on what she saw and it's width. The Major clearly wasn't aware of this possibility, whether he was impressed by it or not. If what caused this got pulled along with it then it was likely in the center of the phenomenon.

It be big! ASHLIE's theory, backed by Will's recollection, certainly gave it major credence, at least.

It DID appear that they gotten to the center of the building; the question was whether anything BELOW the building had also been taken into said black hole.

Unfortunately there was little she could do right now to determine the depth. Even if the width was the same, which wasn't necessarily given, it probably encompassed a lot of empty air next to the building.

"Now should I see myself out or do you need to escort me off the premises?"

"It would be my pleasure to see you off of my base."

The sensor column on the drone rotates a full 360 degrees.

The action surprised people, and suddenly, an uncomfortable amount of guns were pointed at the drone!

"Oh for the love of god... Really?" she says, stopping to indicate she's not trying anything. "This drone is unarmed. You can put down your weapons."

"I believe you'll find, Ms. Mindamida, that we always have our weapons at the ready.

We'll show you out now. I hope our paths do not cross again."

"I'm sure you do." she says, leaving it ambiguous as to which part exactly she's responding to as she walks back out into the ice and snow.
