Fragile Creatures

[Narrator]

"Save your regrets, guardian," Lydia says, "And not everything here revolves around you. That woman is steeped in dark magic. Isaac sensed her the moment she set foot on our property. We just didn't know what she'd brought with her." She frowns, "Some parts are still... foggy. There's a... lot of pain."

[Isolde Schwarz]

"I mean at least one of the people that attacked the two of you is directly my fault."

"I should've never turned him."

[Narrator]

"Wind blows, water flows, earth erodes, as my Isaac used to say. What's done is done. Your charge is, I think, the only Child in the isles now. I don't know why precisely they wanted Isaac, but it can't be good." A sad expression crosses her face.

[Isolde Schwarz]

"It's not the first someone's gone after her."

"At one point, that someone was me."

[Narrator]

"They're a forgiving lot," Lydia says, "Often too much for their own good."

[Isolde Schwarz]

"...that's why it's up to us to keep them from things they'll want to forgive," she frowns.

[Narrator]

"You can't keep them from it anyone more than you can scoop the ocean out with a tea cup. Just make sure you're beside her and can pick her up when she falls, because they can fall far." Her image shudders.

[Isolde Schwarz]

"Goes against my instincts," she sighs.

"But you don't need to hear me whine. Just... thank you."

[Narrator]

"Of course, guardian. We're a brotherhood, sisterhood, fellowship as much as the Children are." She smiles as her image begins to fade, "But my time as a guardian is done. I think it's time to rest."
