Not What You Had In Mind

Miriam spiraled down into the box, dodging red energy as she went.

SOMETHING was up here. Down here? Over here. It was hard to keep your barrings when you're tumbling down what feels like a tremendous hole, as bolts of red energy, trees and animals shot past her towards the exit to the box.

There DID seem to be light at the bottom of the pit.

Miriam tries her best to avoid the things pouring the other way as she descends towards the light. It made sense that some things would be able to get out, especially if they'd been waiting to be freed, but she'd have to let Sam handle that. So she spirals down, dodging trees and red lightning on her way.

Miriam emerged from the long dark tunnel...only to fall into a large, brown lake.

...Chocolate?

Miriam flails for a moment as she tries to get her bearing after dropping into a lake of semi-viscous liquid. After a moment her avatar makes it to the surface and she drags herself to the shore, trying to will the chocolate stains off of her.

"Sweets?" she thinks to herself a little bit incredulously. She wasn't sure what she'd expected, but a lake of chocolate had not even been on the list.

"Well, well. What do we have here?" Will Stanton said, bending over to look at Miriam as she dragged herself to shore. "An unexpected tourist."

They were in some sort of large, natural setting--grass, hills, sunshine, birds singing, the like. It was a nice day!

"Will? Yes, I suppose that's what I am, though I would have called myself an explorer."

"Oh, I'm sorry. We've already explored everything. You're a bit late," he laughed. "Born in the wrong century, or something along those lines."

"Well, it's terra incognita to me. Very much so, judging by the kind of landscape..." she says as she looks around.

There were a bunch of Wills, mingling around. The chocolate lake was filed by some kind of chocolate waterfall, and drained out into a chocolate river entering a cave.

"Well, you're not really supposed to be here, are you? At all, I mean."

"Probably not, no. But I'm good at getting into deep places like this, so Sam cracked the door a little for me. I have to admit, I didn't expect something like this."

"And what WERE you expecting? A playground? A blank canvas? Scars?"

"Something more... worth locking away. Scars is high on that list."

"Well, as you well know, we're a bit more resilient than that," he said, still smiling. "You'll have to try harder, next time."

"I just want to find out if it's safe for Will, for you, to release all of this." she says. It's at least part of it, even if it's not the entire truth.

"Let it all hang out, huh? You're the safety inspector this time?

An interesting game, but you know me--I'm fun to play with."

She's tragedy, I suppose, isn't she?"

"It's difficult to explain. It certainly wasn't your doing, don't worry your head.

Perhaps you'd like to see for yourself?"

"Please." she says. This was getting more and more confusing, though it was obvious that she must be reminding Will of somebody. Somebody buried in here along with tragedy...

"Come on then, I'll take you there," he said, walking over to a convenient boat on the chocolate lake.

Miriam slowly floats after him and onto the boat.

As she floats past Will, he runs a finger down her side and then licks it, tasting the chocolate.

"Hrm. Doing something different with your hair these days?" he asked, climbing into the boat as it started floating mysteriously downstream, without any obvious means of propulsion.

"I'm not who you seem to think I am." she says, the two masks of her avatar craning around to look for chocolate stains to rid herself of. When she spots them it just sloughs off of her, leaving just faint blotches behind in the fabric. She's not too concerned about how the boat moves, she's sure it'll take them where they're going.

"Nevermind. You're associating me with somebody and on this level no amount of logic is going to penetrate." she tries to wave it off. But still, such a persistent assumption...

And here comes the drop!" he added, as the boat they were riding plummeted over a sudden ledge!

Miriam really should have seen that coming but she's still knocked into the railing and frantically grabs for a handhold when the ship falls away from under her for a moment. She tries to reestablish her own reality to try and float, but this deep it's hard not to get tangled up in the realities of the mindscape and the current reality is that the ship is plummeting and her with it.

To make matters worse, WIll had grabbed her in midair and began spreading out, like a blanket.

Or, considering he was sticky, more like flypaper or something along those lines.

"We're going to take a little trip," he said, as they fell.

"I couldn't help but notice..." she says, trying to stay calm. It's just a dream but that doesn't do much about the pit in her stomach from falling through the empty air, not to mention Will wrapping himself around her. "We couldn't have just taken an elevator?" she tries to ask sarcastically, but it ends up coming out a little nervous.
