Battlestations!

Postby Narrator » Wed Aug 17, 2016 2:24 pm

It's been several days of relative quiet, although everyone's days are still fairly busy getting roped in to help out on the ship or getting whipped into shape by Shatterstar. It's not a pleasant couple of days, but at least it's relatively safe. That is until one early morning when klaxons go off across the whole carrier.

"Proximity Sensor tripped! Enormous lifeform detected half a nautical mile starboard! Everyone to battlestations!"

On the bridge Shatterstar is standing at attention while people stare at the radar screen.

"Submarine 632 reporting." one of the communications officers informs Siberia. "Huge reading from one of their sentinel stations and approaching fast."

"Radar still showing nothing, Admiral." the radar tech informs her unhelpfully.

"Switch to hardlines. Full security measures. Scramble the remaining fighters to support the sentry flight. Order 632 to engage that sensor reading and destroy it. We can analyze it when it's dead. Order the Liberator to begin a threat sweep and order the Lensherr to move between us and the life form with weapons free." She turned to look at Shatterstar, "It looks like we have our first full engagement." Some part of her seemed strangely eager about that.

Various calls of "Acknowledged!" come over the radio lines.

Meanwhile Shatterstar nods curtly and grabs her own radio from her shoulder. "I assume you've been listening in, so you know the drill. Squad 2, escort the recon flight, launch in 2 minutes. Take the newbie with you. Cleared to open fire, approach beta. You swoop in the path of the Lensherr and you better hope you get caught in her crossfire so I don't get my hands on you." she barks out orders.

Meanwhile the submarine reports in over the radio.

"Torpedoes prepped and ready. Target approximately 20 seconds away from optimal targeting range."

"Reading's steady, still nothing on the sonar. Whatever it is it's quiet."

"Target within range. Opening fire!"

Through the window outside very little of what is happening is visible, even if one knew where the submarine was underneath the grey waves. Two planes along with several flying mutants take to the air. Then, finally, the silence is broken once again by the radio.

"Torpedoes vanished from sonar, cannot confirm impact. Repeat, no confirmed hit. Flush torpedoes tubes 5 through 8 and fire again."

Suddenly out on the ocean three distinct waves are visible of torpedoes speeding along just underneath he surface and before anybody can raise any alarms they slam into the broadside of the Liberator in three rapid hits that blossom into large fireballs. The radio crackles to life again though it breaks up constantly and is full of static.

"Torp--krzzzz--repeat do n--krzzz--ystems fai--krzzz--"

"God damn it," Siberia swore, the glowing energy in her eyes blazing to life as the outer hull of the Kuznetsov plated itself in ice. The ship was slower now, but the ice would help protect them and keep them afloat. The supply ships veered off, getting away with all speed from the brawl that was starting. The Liberator, though crippled, dumped old school depth charges overboard. The canisters of explosive sank under the waves and automatically exploded from simple pressure triggers when they reached a good depth. The Lensherr began doing the same, lobbing the charges along the projected approach route of the contact. The resulting underwater explosions were wrecking the hell out of their own sonar, but at least the gunners had sense to steer the things clear of 632's last reported position.

The ice forms just in time before the last salvo of torpedoes the sub fired hammer into the Kuznetsov. Ice breaks and falls away but the hull remains undamaged. The depth charges detonate, throwing up gushes of seawater when they do. Among them a huge bow wave begins forming as whatever thing they detected slowly surface on a straight collision course with the Lensherr. One of the charges brings with it a splash of dark-blue water just before the huge waves is broken up by a bulge of surface tension. It bursts open into numerous giant tentacles that slam down on the Lensherr, breaking one of her cannons and latching on. Blue blood is squirting from where one of the charges blew a chunk out of it's thick skin but it doesn't seem deterred by that in the slightest.

In the water just below the surface gleaming metal shows some kind of structure clinging to the enormous creature. Part of it opens and out of it launches a huge mech into the air. Jets fire to adjust it's trajectory and help it clear the water between the ships before it slams down onto the deck of the air-craft carrier, instantly crushing the two planes it lands on.

"Kablooie!" Conduit's voice still rings out from all the speakers, though she's beginning to sound strained, like she has her mental fingers in too many cookie jars.

The Lensherr's smaller guns open up on the creature, the rattle of machine gun fire punctuated by the thump-thump of one of its few anti-aircraft guns that has a shot.

On the bridge of the Kuznetsov, Siberia was distinctly unhappy. "I hate that little technopathic bitch," she said, turning her gaze out to where the Lensherr was. There were plenty of people on this boat who could take care of the mech and an admiral had to worry about all her ships. Ice began to bob next to the Kuznetsov before propelling itself at high velocity towards the enemy vessel.

The cannon-fire hammers into the kraken and though it mostly hits it's tentacles still leaves behind deep blue holes, where they punched through the creature. The chunks of ice slam into it though half of them shatter against it's armor that's still mostly hidden underneath the waves. And as it's under attack it slowly coils it's tentacles around the Lensherr, metal groaning only to be interrupted by piercing screech as the creature's beak tears into the hull. It's only moments later, Bruce still on his way there when the Lensherr begins to take on water and is immediately pulled under by the giant creature hanging on it.

Bruce, from his vantage point under water can see just how enormous it is, tentacles that aren't holding on to the ship extending out almost to some of the other ships while what can only be called a metallic building sits nestled in the place where tentacles meet the main body. Gaping open in it is the hangar that the giant mech was deployed from, closing ever so slowly.

Meanwhile on the deck of the aircraft carrier, Shatterstar bursts out from the super-structure like a miniature sun and immediately beams of light stab out from her, aimed at the giant mech. Some of the shattered ice reforms and begins spiking itself into the creature, clawing its way into the creature's flesh.

On the bridge, Siberia's brow furrows in concentration. "Pull the planes back to protect the supply ships. All other flyers to engage the the kraken-creature." The bridge crew relays the order and the flight groups break up to their assignments.

The giant Kraken is slow to respond to the ice, though eventually it does begin to pry it away with it's tentacles, often flinging it into one of the other ships. It doesn't seem to even notice Bruce or if it did then it's ignoring him. The big hangar is still closing, fighting against the water masses slowing it down. Tosh might be able to make out that there are numerous weapon pods on the structure that aren't being deployed yet.

"Thresher! Stop playing! Break their super-structure!" Conduit's voice meanwhile comes through the Mech's systems while the energy-blast he fired slams into Shatterstar and despite her best efforts of conjuring up bright white energy to clash with the blast inches away from her is slowly being forced backwards until her concentration finally slips for a moment, the ensuing explosion of energy knocking her straight across the flight-deck.

Among all the chaos that has broken out on deck (and on board the various other ships that are pulling around) flashes of light begin to appear that collapse into ground-troops. Cavemen armed with anything from clubs to laser-rifles begin attacking crewmembers everywhere. Some just go down immediately, others begin pushing back, erecting forcefields, shooting bouts of flame or turning into scaled hulks as mutants all over draw on their powers.

The planes and flight-capable mutants that made it into the air meanwhile are coming around for a strafing run on the Kraken's location, which at this point is mostly the sinking Lensherr in turbulent water surrounded by tentacles.

As the exterior of the superstructure shreds away under the missile barrage, the interior glimmers with a shield of ice. A pair of large glowing eyes appear in the ice structure. "I don't appreciate you damaging my things," the ice says as a squad of ice men spin themselves off the structure and begin charging through the battle towards the mech.

Bruce manages to weave his way through the chunks of ice floating around and the tentacles unpredictably moving through the water like giant logs to deliver an electrically charged punch to one of the weapon pods. The casing cracks a little under the blow but more importantly, the electricity surges into it along with the sea water. Little bubbles of explosions form as what can only be a precursor for worse while above the giant squid and him the Lensherr is slowly sinking.

On deck the ground-troops finally seem to notice Sam and Will who appear to be caught between the slowly forming lines of engagement between cavemen and Russian squads, lasers and bullets flying while a caveman wielding what appears to be a futuristic-looking club charges at Sam.

From beneath the edge of the flight-deck a bleeding and very angry Shatterstar rises, leaving behind a meteor-trail of light. More of it pours from her outstretched hands in a barely contained stream that strikes at the ground near Thresher's mech, melting away the surface of the flight-deck and making one leg of the giant machine crash through into the decks below, getting trapped in the rubble.

The blast hits the flight-deck and explodes in a giant shockwave as the discharged energy blasts a giant hole into the deck, exposing more of the decks underneath and obliterating whatever's inside at least a couple decks down.

Meanwhile on board the Architeutis lights are flashing red and Conduit is grinding her teeth. "You. Broke. My. Toys!" Her eyes flare brightly and the giant squid, with a sudden outburst crushes the remains of the Lensherr between it's tentacles, the whole ship breaking in two before the creature rushes forward, right towards the aircraft-carrier.
