"Your logic is fascinating. Are you trying out for teams? You seem to have a wonderful grasp on peacekeeping."

"No, that's not really my thing. I'd make more of a mess than I'd help."

"Then what's your 'thing'?" Basil asked, trying to change the topic of conversation.

"My 'thing'? You mean, my mutation?"

"Well I meant what your interests and hobbies are, but if you would like to chat about that then that'd be alright as well." He offered, grabbing a biscuit to nibble.

"See, that's why I asked. You weren't very specific.

I don't really have any special hobbies, I guess. I like the normal stuff. Music. Parties."

"What kind of music? What kind of parties?"

"Oh you know, the classics. OutKast, R Kelly, Daft Punk..."

This was one of those instances in which Basil was glad no one could see his face. Even if she was joking about the 'classics' part, he didn't really figure there was any point in lying about what music she liked and then throwing in a decent band with two terrible acts.

Unless she was joking? A test.

"Sooo that means you like... dance parties?"

"Oh, yeah. I love to dance, and to drink, and to dance."

Basil tried not to laugh as to not be insulting, but a mischievous sort of tone crept into his voice.

"I wouldn't have pegged you as a party girl. Just goes to show, you can't judge a book by it's cover."

"Oh, you'd be surprised how I can get."

"Oh?" Basil was highly dubious of the claim, but only because he already suspected the answer was 'hot mess' from her music choices.

"Yes indeed."

"Well there will be plenty of parties I suspect. All kinds of opportunities to witness first hand what doom you bring."

"Do you go to many yourself?"

"Of course. To bastardize the words of a funny man, 'I will gladly join any club that would have me as a member.' " He replied, amused. "Though admittedly, I prefer fancy dress parties to dance ones nowadays."

"Why is that?"

"In my experience, girls don't want to be seen dancing with the chap no one can see."

His answer seemed genuine enough, especially since he fell silent afterwards.

"How much experience is that?"

"A fair amount. At my last uni, I stopped going to social group outings that involved dancing because of it.

Admittedly I have not tried here, but I suspect the problem would be the same but for a different reason.


'My beau has a prehensile tail , what has yours got? Nothing? That's a right shame now isn't it? How dull.' "

"Well, how do people KNOW you don't have a prehensile tail?"

"While I appreciate the point you are making, I am fairly certain the wow factor of exotic body parts comes in showing them off." He laughed.

"Eh, if you say so. I don't know, you could make up whatever you wanted."

"I could, but I could also get caught in a lie if someone started feeling for supposed body parts or saw my reflection somewhere or a snapshot of me. Then no one would want to dance with me for a very valid reason."

"Oh, you show up in pictures?"

"Not digital ones. Some day soon I won't show up in pictures at all. Only reflection. Like so."

Basil held out his arm over the highly polished table in front of him and splayed his fingers as widely as they would go. The wood grain and colour would make it difficult to make out details, but on the surface of the table if Molly looked hard, she could definitely make out the pattern of a caucasian human hand being reflected back.

"Oh! So you're like, a reverse-vampire."

"Well, except for the fact I don't feast off the living." He joked. "That's a big part of vampirism as I understand."

"No, no, reverse vampire. Probalby means you have to donate blood, or something."

That got a good chuckle out of Basil. "You seem the expert on this, so I shall defer to your judgment."
