"Yeah, well cats don't like having their tails pulled BY MAGIC!" he said before kicking some snow at the shears.
He looked over at her with glowing eyes that quickly faded back to normal.

"Look, I know you're stressed out. I know I would be if someone died in front of me..."

A sense of 'rightness' settles over Sam. It's good that she's here. It's not an unfamiliar feeling.

"I didn't just see her die. I think I saw her soul leave! Why would I see that?!" he asked, clearly distressed.

"...because someone has to," she mumbles.

Diego gets the brief impression of birds all around him as Sam spreads out her awareness.

She could feel the residue of the woman's death on the area. It wasn't a stain. She'd lived well and died well. Her ravens kept shying away from the shears, which had a light all their own in the Astral. The 'light' is angry and dark at the moment, like a bad mood that refuses to let up. The sense of the woman is familiar, reminding Sam of a shop and a discussion between Nailah and a "Ms. Weaver."

Diego looked around for the birds and looked both perplexed and annoyed when he failed to see anything.

"I'm getting really tired of things I can't see or can't touch."

The anger didn't seem to be directed at anyone specifically at the moment. The snow Diego had previously kicked onto the shears began to steam away as well.

"Then I'll have to deal with them."

"I'm here," she calls out to the scissors. "Let him go."

WHAT DOES HE KNOW? The voice is imperious, obviously used to having its questions answered. The mental presence attempts to pick through Sam's brain as well, but stops abruptly. She can tell the presence isn't so much *in* the shears, as funneled through them. I see he summoned the Morrigan. My child's soul is not yours to claim. The Valkyries should be the ones to bring her to her rest.

"I was called by name. Not just by him, but by your child. You are far from your lands, but I am not."

"I'm not here to claim her, but to heed her warning."

She was sent to your lands, following her duty. That should not have cost her her life. I am unable to avenge her, but you will avenge her. It was hard to tell whether that is an order or a prediction. Both of them can suddenly see a tall apparition of a woman in a hooded robe. A single large braid of steel grey hair with streaks of blonde sticks out of the shadow of the hood. In one hand is a large pair of shears while a length of thread coils around the other hand. You wish to be untied from her fate, then you will accept my charge. She gestures, but it's difficult to tell which of them she's gesturing at.

To die was not her fate. The weave has warped and threads are out of place or missing. The spinning wheel is out of alignment and I and my sisters must focus on that. If you do not take it up, there will be no need for Skoll to swallow the sun.

To all things come their time. You are faced with an incredible adversary, Morrigan. He would pre-empt Ragnarok in his own hubris. You must protect the child of earth.

Is magic always this confusing?

My sisters and I will be watching carefully. Do not disappoint us. We would hate to have to unweave and reweave things. The connection to the shears was starting to fade.

Of course not. Anyone with their eyes opened can see the world is darkening in prelude to the death of the sun. We see the ends. A world persistently darkened, creatures of the night roaming the world unimpeded, the bridge between worlds corrupted and closed. There will be plenty of battles for you to feast on, Battle Crow, but it will be bitter food indeed.

Don't let it. This is our charge to you. The apparition disappeared and the presence vanished. The shears began to shudder and flake into silver dust.
