If Trees Could Talk

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as classroom space for the University. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for University students on a meal plan. The old library has been bolstered with college textbooks.

If Trees Could Talk

"Why people insist on the annual ritualistic murder of you guys is beyond me," Shane sighed as he studied the Christmas tree. "I bet you're thirsty," he said before kneeling down and moving aside the decoration at the base of the tree to check the water level.

The water level seemed a bit on the low side, as one might expect from all the lights and everything in here causing things to dry up.

Most people wouldn't notice this, but the tree didn't...didn't look right. At least, not to someone with a more intimate knowledge of plants.

Shane's brow went up as he noticed the tree looked wrong somehow.

"Huh..." he said. He reached out to pluck a needle from the tree for closer examination.

The needle felt real enough, if a bit dry. It also came off the tree without too much hassle.

The smell, though, was slightly off. A faint hint of artificial pine air freshener, perhaps?

"But a really good fake wouldn't need..." he thought aloud. He stepped back quickly and put up his fists before realizing how stupid it looked and lowering them. "No you bloody nutter, the Skrulls wouldn't care about ruining Christmas," he muttered.

"Will?" he asked uncertainly.

Shane mentally winced at probably opening old wounds and endeavored to change the direction of the conversation. "Though, small inaccuracies aside, you're still damn good at shifting. Getting close to check the water is the only reason I suspected anything."
