Red Rover, Red Rover

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as classroom space for the University. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for University students on a meal plan. The old library has been bolstered with college textbooks.

Shari nods at Wanda. Regardless of why Ainsley was here, it couldn't hurt. "Thanks, Wanda."

When she turns back around and sees Ainsley inspect the tub she walks over. "Don't mind that thing. That's my roommate's. He's kinda weird, but in an alright way." she chuckles.

Ainsley looked at her for a moment, then pulled out his phone.

" I was worried. You disappeared."

"Dude, people disappear all the time. Hop the train or hike the hitch." she tries to play it off, but it's obviously a shitty answer and even she can tell that much. "I was just gonna check this place out, get some free meals and bail, but... stuff happened. Real weird, mind-blowing stuff." She's got an at least somewhat understandable reason why she forgot about Ainsley a little bit during the last couple weeks, but she can't exactly lead with that. Nevermind that to him it'd probably sound like the lamest lie ever.

It did, but Ainsley was the sort of person that would give a person the benefit of the doubt, perhaps to his own detriment.

"What kinda stuff?"

Ainsley's eyes got wide in a fashion Shari should know by now meant nothing good.

He attempted to grab her by the wrist so they could leave.

He was not looking to get exploded, and neither should Shari.

He manages to pull Shari's hand and wrist along, but not the rest of her as her arms grows longer to let her remain where she is.

"No no, it's fine. Nobody got hurt by it or anything." she says which was technically true.

Ainsley flapped Shari's noodle arm in frustration, unceremoniously dropping it with a thud and folding his arms over his chest to scowl and pout.

Shari grins a little and retracts her arm back to normal proportions.

"This place is full of mutants. Shit happens. It's definitely safer than the streets." she says with a hint of trying-to-convince-herself like she's trying to belief it despite her instincts.

"Let's just say I'd rather not have remembered who my parents were or why I left them behind." she says. This is already more than she was going to say, but when you're the only one actually saying anything it's really easy to accidentally fill the silence.

Now Ainsley looked kind of... annoyed? Most of Ainsley's expressions were very obvious, probably unconsciously cultivated that way due to necessity.

This was a much more mixed expression, somewhere between 'Are you taking the mick? We're standing in a mutant school right now' and 'Don't you trust me?'

"I crash landed on this planet with my space-ship." she responds defiantly, like trying to prove a point. "Well... not mine mine but a space-ship none the less." she elaborates as her features take on a more reptilian slant, skin turning green, chin creasing as her ears grow pointed.

At first, Ainsley looked frightened, like most people who just saw their friend turn into a giant lizard-eqse person probably would.

But the fright dissipated into curiosity as he inspected her visually.

Eventually, his whole chest started shaking as he covered a huge grin. Shari would recognize this as him laughing at her regardless of the fact the only sound coming from him was a slightly laboured breath through his nostrils due to his amusement.

No matter how funny he found something, Ainsley always sounded like someone holding in laughter for fear of getting caught.
