I'm just a student here. I've already told her she's wrong. What more can I really do about it?

What a pathetic excuse for the Phantom Queen you turned out to be... Humans and automatons alike should tremble before you! Battle-Crow, Storm-Bringer, riding the tides of battle and holding man's fate! You walk beside the Mac Tíre and Gwion, the Sidhe call to you for aide! None should dare slight the red-furred wolf, the washer on the shore!

Something in Sam seems to rumble under the surface like an approaching thunderhead at that. Something in her likes being addressed that way, but also rages at being mocked.

Should I even ask what self-loathing part of me you happen to be? she inwardly questions, gritting her teeth.

Mayhaps your missing self-esteem, Lady of Ravens.

What have I done to earn any of that? Half the time when I start to let that out I fall flat on my face.

The bird doesn't question how it flies, the fish not how it swims.

Birds and fish can't. The rest of us are stuck with wondering.

How stubborn your insistence on blissful ignorance. Do you relish your denial merely because it's a choice you can make? Where's the woman that struck down the Abyss Singer? Disappointing...

I did what I had to! She was just putting out so much madness and I needed something to push back with.

And it had felt good. To erupt like that. To feel like she actually knew what she was doing. To be arrows and axes and spears and endless cruel beaks and claws.

Madness? There is no madness to be found in the deep. Only the truth and it is more terrifying in it's glory than any madness could ever be.

So what? I was supposed to respect what she was doing? She left me no choice. I wasn't going to sit by while she ate my friends.

You protected your chosen warriors and bested her. To dismiss what you did and return to... this is insulting, pathetic, infuriating!

If I don't have to take it from them, I don't have to take it from you, either.

She grits her teeth, her hair inching downwards and growing unkempt, a few black feathers emerging woven into it.

There she is! Why do you hide, Phantom Queen?

What, you just decided to poke me until I finally poked back?

A dozen beaks protrude haphazardly from her flesh, cawing eyelessly before retreating back into her skin.

If my body problems are mental, I know how to get all of you lot facing forward.

Apparently that is the only way to rouse the Morrigan!

Not all of the beaks withdraw, some remain embedded in her skin, some of them open to reveal regular human teeth, others a misshapen eyeball.

Or do you prefer it when the shadow of death hangs over your mortal warriors?

I like it even less when all of you in there are trying to mutiny!

She's furious now, drawing up Nemain and Macha to bolster the already roiling Badb, recalling the last time she really felt certain about anything.

You want the Morrigan, you're going to bloody get her.

With that, she tries to clamp down on her form and force it into that vision of strength.

The uncomfortable resistance of parts of her body disappear or at least shrink away enough to firmly establish her shape. The fact that the voice in her head is laughing, perhaps a little too maniacally so, is probably fine.

Glorious!

Sam curls a lip in a sneer of victory, taking up her drumsticks again. Threading her headphones through the wild mass of hair, her stool creaks slightly in protest at the new muscle weight it's suddenly been forced to accept.

You'd better not forget it. Ever.

She thumbs her phone back to playing music and loses herself in the beat, hair flailing.
