Xaviers!

As Haley snaps and Sam frowns, Tereza grunts, balling up one of her fists. There's a brief flash of pain from her as her fingernails get sharp and jab into her palm.

"Can you, like, reign in the Hitchcock-ness a bit?"

"Fine," she grumbles, the flock starting to retreat into her mind.

"Wouldn't want to make anyone uncomfortable, would we?"

“I’m sorry,” she said the tears coming back as the aggravation from Sam and Tereza was felt. “I...I’ll just go... I can’t do anything right with this fucking power.”

"No, no, I'll go," Tereza says, blinking a bit. "I'm the one that's dangerous to get riled up." She gives Sam a kiss on the cheek and exits quickly, already thinking about where she's going to chase down some food.

"I ruin everything with my telepathy. My roommate tried to eat me, and then ran away to get the fuck away from me because of it, I just melted my boyfriend's brain and could have fucking killed him, and I just made everyone mad, I hate this so much," she sobbed as her cafeteria tray started to somehow crumple like a sheet of paper rather than disintegrating into shards of plastic.

"Miriam what?" Sam says, her attention snapping to Haley.

“She bit me?” she sniffled meekly. “I thought she was like...being nice to me for a change and well...coming on to me but she bit me instead.”

"Wait what!?"

"Do you know where she went?"

“No...she just left not that long after um....well she bit me. I didn’t tell anybody because she asked me not too and said she’d be nicer to me and not try to eat me. It...I dunno. I lost a lot of blood it seemed like a good idea at the time.”

"Damn it, I didn't think she'd..."

She sighs.

"One more thing to deal with."

"Would somebody please explain what's going on? Did I forget something?" Nailah asks, flipping through her journal to try and see if she wrote down anything about this.

"Miriam's... gotten into some bad shite," she says diplomatically.

“My roommate got turned into a vampire after she got caught trying to cheat at a casino. I’m not sure if it was a vampire casino or if I’m missing part of the story.”

"Oof... Glad she didn't hurt you worse."

"Nothing strange since then? You haven't started... eating bugs or anything?"

“No...oh god, am I going to turn into one? She told me I wouldn’t...” Haley replied, panic in her voice.

"I don't... really know how it works," she admits. "I don't think Miriam intended to become one."

"You've been out and about, right? You would have noticed if the sun was starting to hurt you." Nailah tries to calm Haley down.

“Yeah,” she exhaled. “a Yeah...and food still tastes good and fills me up...she kept telling me how hungry she was even though she ate like three slices of my pizza that night so like. Yeah... I’m safe. I hope.

"We need to find her at some point, but I'm not allowed back in Cerebra yet."

“....I’d offer to help but I don’t think me in Cerebra would end well.”

"Apparently they found traces of my DNA in it or something during the whole illusion thing."

"I mean, Conduit and Thresher aren't even from this universe and they had the nerve to ask if I was the one helping them?"

“...those....versions of us? from the other universe were fucking scary. I think I met...’you’ in the bottom of an aircraft carrier and it was terrifying.”

"I feel so out of the loop right now..."

"Old mission came back to haunt us when the semester started."

"Okay but... why do we need a weird brain-machine to find Miriam?"

“I have no idea where she went. Assuming Sam doesn’t either. Cerebra would make it easier to find her.”

"Right. That's what Cerebra's for, mostly. Finding mutants."

"Okay, but it's not, like, the only way."

“Well, no, but...I dunno. It’s supposed to be super fast compared to like. Calling the police and stuff.”

“...do you think I could handle it, Sam? I...hadn’t really ever wanted to try before. Still not sure I do. But if you can’t use it and you want to find my roommate.”

"...what, call the police?"

“...Uh...using Cerebra. I think I could call the police here. Wait...do I know how to dial 911 here?”

She shook her head quickly, wincing immediately in regret, “I know, it’s stupid. Just forget it.”

"I could help finding her." Placing Haley into Cerebra strikes her as a... questionable idea at best, given her friends doubt in her own telepathic capabilities, but she'd never outright say so.

"You sure you're up to it? I mean..."

“Nai, you just got back from Muir...I can’t have my bestie getting hurt trying to push too hard so soon...”

"Look, you can do the punching if it comes to that. I just don't wanna feel like I'm useless while I'm lugging this stupid cast around."

"Don't most of your visions involve punching?"

"I'm... trying something else." she says a bit too defensively for that to be the whole truth.

Closing her eyes she tries to relax and push her thoughts towards the fractured mirror and it's criss-crossing lines of head-aches that seem to splinter off into infinite branches. Both Haley and Sam probably catch a mental glimpse of it for just a moment before it stops and quickly fades. Nailah let's out a shuddering breath but seems to steady herself again fairly quick. "You... should make sure to charge your phone." she groggily tells Sam.
