Natalie blinks, a strict affectation, but it seems to take her a bit to process things. "Like some sort of vampire thing? I mean, there's some corners of science that have hypothesized a virus or bacteria that would induce hematophagia, but no one takes them seriously."

"Yes. Like 'some sort of vampire thing'." Miriam says with a voice dripping with sarcasm.

Natalie looks indignant. "Look, I get that people around here get hyped up on 'werewolves' and 'fae' and 'magic'. I'm not one of them."

"It's less hype and more a very sobering reality check."

"Fair enough. My experience is not yours and I've been bitten more than once by assuming that it is."
