Nailah, with sunken eyes and unkempt as if she just crawled out of beds moments before (which she did) to report for her punishment of serving breakfast to the rest of the students. Her wings are ruffled with feathers sticking out every which way and she's wearing a hairnet on both her head as well as tied around the bushel of hair on the tip of her tail, which seems a little pointless and a lot ridiculous.

Trudging through the line was Katarina, in her golden form and thus drawing a lot of glances she might not otherwise get. As she got towards the front of the line, Nailah could see why -- she had quite a few scuffs and dings in her golden form; far from the polished look she normally boasted.

Nailah is half-asleep at the wheel, but this is hard to miss. "Rough day?" she asks as she dumps a bunch of fresh chips fries into the serving tray thingie separating her from the line of students.

"And it has barely even started yet.

Power training class, first thing," she groaned.

"What'd they do, pelt you with a bunch of stuff?" Nailah jokes.

"Well, eventually, they hit me with a truck," she frowned. "I do not believe that was in the least bit fair."

"Whaaaat? That's crazy. You're not even on the teams, are you?"

"No, I am not. But they said that learning defensive things was still a good use of time," she frowned.

"Lot of intricate maneuvers involved in standing there and getting hit by a truck?"

"Well, I wasn't supposed to get hit by the truck," she frowned. "I was supposed to be hidden."

"Hide. From a truck. When you turn into gold. How's that connect exactly?"

"Well, it wasn't just some random truck. It was people in a truck out to get me; I was hiding from them.

Or rather, from some of their associates, who did not have a truck."

"Okay that's... a little less stupid. But still, if you're not on the teams, why would that ever be a concern?"

"It's..." Katarina stuttered.

"I'm sure it's just part of everyone's standard training regime," she bluffed.

"No, my parents are very normal. The most normal parents you can find, probably!"

Katarina blinked, entirely missing the joke.

"I...what? No, uh, nothing like that.

We're just normal people making our way in our normal lives back home. I am very fortunate to be able to come out to the West to go to school here..."

"Oookay? It was just a joke." she says, still sounding kind of amused. "But hey, good for you! Sounds like you've lived a very normal life. Wink." she actually says out loud as she gives Katarina an over-dramatic wink.

Katarina sighed a sigh of relief sighing. "Yes. Yes, I have. Thank you, very much.

...Since when did you work in the cafeteria?"

Katarina frowned. "I could go speak to them on your behalf, if you would like."

"...Yes. Yes, of course, you're right," she said, looking around a little shiftily, and awkwardly rubbing her scuffs and scrapes. "Still. I do not believe the headmaster is a very good leader."

"And internal politics. Symkaria stands proudly unbent and unbroken, but the person in charge has changed quite frequently."

"No, no, no. Symkaria has a royal family.

Several of them, actually. And they do not always get along."

"Well, multiple civil wars probably do not qualify as 'neat', I would say. Fortunately, Symkaria typically does a better job dealing with our unfit leaders."

"We are in Eastern Europe. It is not, how you say, a barrel of laughs?

Yet we stand strong. Not the Austro-Hungarians, not the Nazis, not the Soviets, not the Latverians -- we have remained independent throughout it all. Symkaria does not bow," she said, proudly.

"We are a proud people. And brave. I am very happy to be Symkarian, and would not trade it for anything in the world," she nodded.
