"But seriously, anything. I know you like art and that you have a sister. But I've been talkin' about myself so much, I don't know much else."

Ainsley furrowed his brow, clearly in thought. In took him several moments to come up with something.

When he did, he ate as he 'spoke'

"I'm the younger of only two siblings. I don't know who my mum or da was, but Dave said mum stayed around for a bit before she split. She said she split because I was mute and she didn't want to deal with a disabled kid.

Dave and I bounced around to a few foster homes but when Dave proved to have the gene, they split us up and put her in a group home. I guess Her Majesty sees mutancy as a behavioral problem.

So prolly comes as no surprise than when I discovered mine, I didn't tell anyone. I didn't want them to move me somewhere Dave couldn't find me.

But eventually I aged out of one system and Dave ended up in another. I dunno where they keep people like us really. All I know is the crown keeps her locked up tight someplace or another."

His thoughts paused, trying to think of something else, perhaps something more positive to share.

"I'm 20 years old, but I'll be 21 in June."

Ainsley set down his fork and squinted his eyes in a relaxed fashion, curling up his lips to mimic a cat's satisfied, smug face. He used his hands to make himself a pair of fake ears, one lolled to the side in a casual fashion.

Then he very slowly blinked.
