[Archaea]

She shrugs. "It's a plant. It came from you, that much was obvious."

[Shane Marsh]

"Takes a lot to phase you doesn't it?" he asked, which probably revealed much about how he felt about his powers.

[Archaea]

"I'm sorry. Would you rather I've called it disgusting? Would that make you feel better? They're mutations, there's bound to be some misfires, yeah? Some people get to be the sharks and crocodiles and then there's us, the dodos and mammoths."

[Shane Marsh]

"I'm a bit too hard to kill to go that far."

[Archaea]

"That's not..." she groans. "It's how evolution works. Some get the good ones, like and upright pelvis or an enlarged brain and others get she crap, like horns that are too large to lift your head or camouflage that's the wrong pattern."

[Shane Marsh]

"See I just don't buy this being evolution. Mutants can birth non-mutants and I'm pretty sure evolution doesn't just put the cat back in the bag like that."

[Archaea]

"Oh you think somebody or something planned this out for you?"

[Shane Marsh]

"A divine plan?" he laughed, "Hardly. But it's a big universe and compared to other intelligent species we're just babies. Wouldn't surprise me if someone shook the bloody cradle to see what would happen."

[Archaea]

"Of course. Aliens. That makes a lot more sense."

[Shane Marsh]

"About as much sense as evolution changing its rules just for us."

[Archaea]

"Just because you don't understand the rules doesn't mean they're being broken."

[Shane Marsh]

"Then do enlighten me, oh great sage," he answered sarcastically.

[Archaea]

"Even stable species produces callbacks. Regular humans are born with tails or webbed toes, mutants sometimes have human children. It's biology, it's fluid."

[Shane Marsh]

"Evolution is real. I know that because I have more than two functioning brain cells. I just don't like people presumptuously throwing the word at things they won't admit they don't really have a bloody clue about."

[Archaea]

"Whatever. I'd rather believe I just got unlucky than something actually thinking this was a good idea."

[Shane Marsh]

"Never disregard the Potential Arsehole Factor."

[Archaea]

"That doesn't make it any better, really."

[Shane Marsh]

"I guess I'd rather have someone to blame."

[Archaea]

"That... almost makes sense." she says, flashing a faint smile.

[Shane Marsh]

"Preferably someone I can punch, but saying that seems highly unlikely is an understatement."

[Archaea]

"I'll say."

[Shane Marsh]

"So... how about a less depressing subject? Like crying orphans," he joked.

[Archaea]

"Hilarious." she says, turning her attention back to her food.
