The Incredible Sulk

After his conversation with Katarina, Leo did his best to keep his appetite. He made it about halfway through his meal before sulkily poking at the remains with his plus-sized fork. Memories of the painful ordeal that left him as a beastly chimera were once again dragging him into the dark place he might never be completely free of.

He looked up from his pokings in mild surprise, having been to in his own head to hear Ainsley coming.

"I get to bitch fight with a princess?

That's the stuff a boy grows up dreaming about you know." He thought for a moment on who Leo must be talking about.

"That lovely red hair of hers would make a fine addition into my braids after I rip it off the regal pin she calls a head."

He sighed heavily, "No, don't do that."

"It's not like she called me ugly. She just... ignorantly complained about feeling disfigured by a facial injury in front of me, forgettin' that I told her once before what happened to me."

"Oh poo. You never let me have any fun." He replied, clearly joking.

After a very long pause, Ainsley came up with an actually thought out response.

"Women are frequently reminded by bigots and small minded people that their only value is their looks, so they tend to internalize that and it... comes out in strange ways.

I can't imagine it's easy on a princess, the pinnacle of 'only need you for your genetics', to take even a slight cut in stride.

It doesn't forgive it... but perhaps... that makes you feel better somehow? To know it's her own hang ups and has nothing to do with you?"

"It does a little. I mean, she did just go through a kidnapping. I can sympathize with that, even if she probably wasn't locked in a cage and treated like an animal. But if she's disfigured, what am I?"
