I2: Elevenses

At 11am in the Library Basil was 'visible', because he was studying, not working. Dressed in a pair of black slacks and a stripped dress shirt, he was murmuring to himself. The young man was oblivious to the happenings of pixies, leprechauns, and holes in the time space continuum. He'd stopped for a moment to fill his mug which happened to have the words 'Don't Panic' printed on it in large, friendly letters. He returned and dug through his bag looking for a light blue coloured tin and a purple collapsible tea infuser. Spooning the contents of the tea tin into the infuser, he sat down and leant back in his seat, waiting on his tea and taking a study break. As the time passed for his tea to steep, a pleasant citrus scent started to take over his little corner of the library.

Thumping down into a seat a table away, Molly McFly sighed. She had been carrying a couple books, and was clearly exhausted.

The fact that she was maybe three feet tall at the moment might have had something to do with that.

Basil studied the other student for several moments, trying to figure out if she was a child or just very small.

Once he decided he couldn't determine, he spoke out of concern.

"Are you alright miss?" Asked his semi-disembodied voice.

"Gah!" she said, noticing the clothes for the first time.

"No! I mean yes! I mean...where are you?"

"Here." Basil stated, presenting himself by waving his own invisible hand over his stiff, empty clothes.

"Fancy a cuppa?" He asked as he pulled his infuser out of his mug.

"Mmm yes, wouldn't that be lovely?" Basil replied. "Unfortunately, not everyone has the option to 'hide in plain sight' as it were.

But I digress. Did you want some tea? I have another mug in my bag."

Basil moved to a small trash bin and emptied out his tea infuser, then returned and pulled out a box of Walker's Stem Ginger biscuits.

"Biscuit?" He offered.

"Well then you are in luck." He mused, placing the packet in front of her so she could help herself. The picture on the packet as well as the product inside of it looked the same as cookies, just labeled differently.

"What books were you carrying?" Basil asks as he takes a spoon and a plastic container full of sugar cubes out of his bag.

"I suppose because English as a language was created by dead white men." Basil chuckled. " And further, history tells us we didn't like you females doing anything in any English speaking country for quite some time, so any female who may have assisted wouldn't have gotten the credit.

But cheer up, I am sure at the very least you will get to some literature written by dead white women eventually."

I did want to be a drama major before this happened though. So I am a bit of a natural card."

Everything stops for tea." Basil acknowledged with a sense of mischief in his voice, guessing the American girl wouldn't catch his reference.

"The young lady in question was referring to mutants as 'superiors', apparently a shorthand version of 'homo-superior'. She, like yourself, was caught off guard by my condition and felt bad about the scare. She was trying to make amends, stating that she should be used to such things by now because she grew up around 'superiors'.

I just find the phrase to be amusing I suppose."

"We agree then." He observed. "I think maybe some people cling to the idea of us being 'better' because of the human supremacy groups. That doesn't make what they think inherently right or fair to other, more accepting humans.

Granted I realize at the moment those seem in short supply, one always holds out the hope that those people are like other accepting groups. Silent because indifference to the situation requires no uproar."

The dry tone to his voice suggested he was being sarcastic now. He took a swig of his tea.
