Chase entered the library to return his books and check out more. He hoped to run into that Basil guy again and show off his new, completed student ID. Nobody else his age even knew about his memory issues.

Thankfully for Chase, Basil basically lived here( and when this closed, in the XUB) so he was easy enough to find. He had just finished checking in a stack of books when his disembodied vest turned towards Chase.

"Hello there!" He greeted. "It's nice to see you again Chase." He had apparently remembered his name despite never providing it to Tereza upon mentioning Chase's condition. In truth, Basil attempted to avoid using others names at all costs when he was speaking of them and they were not around.

"Hey," he said as he walked over with a friendly smile.

"Those books were great. I'm pretty sure they helped too."

"That's wonderful!" Basil exclaimed. "Both things that is." He followed with a chuckle.

"You remembered something then?"

"I remembered a school I went to and I have a whole name now," he grinned.

"Well, don't keep me in suspense mate!" Basil replied, seemingly eager.

"Hello, my name is Chase Delacroix," he mock-introduced himself.

"Oh no. You're French.

I am afraid we have to be mortal enemies now." He responded deadpan.

"Actually I think I'm American, so we're still good," he smirked.

"I dunnnnnooo mate, you know what happened the last time the French had an idea in the Americas?

Canada."

Okay now he was obviously taking the piss.

"Really though, that's fantastic! Have you checked in with the school yet?"

"Professor Rede, he's been helping me, is looking into it. I'd... be kinda terrified doing it myself."

"Understandable. You're right to let a third party look into it first. Seems to me being as you have amnesia, something strange could be going on there. But I'm sure that even if there were, most of the staff here could handle it.

Well, not me obviously. The super hero ones." He chuckled.

He looked haunted for a moment, but swallowed it down.

"I wouldn't want anyone in danger because of me."

"I wouldn't worry." Basil replied reassuringly. " I suspect the teams initiative weeds out the weak. Anyone left over are far too rugged to be easily bested.

So you enjoyed your reading then?" He asked, changing the subject only to get Chase's mind off the doubt he accidentally planted in there.

"Huh?" he asked, thrown off by the subject change, "Oh! Yeah. I can't wait to move onto the next of both."

"Let's get them then." Basil sat upright so he could help Chase find the next two books.

"I'm curious to see if you remember other things with further reading. Tracking what you remember will be an interesting experiment in the way the human mind associates, don't you think?"

"I have enough people in my head as it is," he said a little shortly.

Basil stopped abruptly, his body turning towards Chase, it seemed. "Apologies... I.. didn't mean to imply that *I* was going to be the one doing the tracking. I meant to imply it might be interesting for you.

I would never expect anyone to tell me anything they wouldn't wish to." The voice he used was small and quiet now.

"Sorry..." he said sheepishly.

"It's just... still a lot to tell a professional let alone anyone else."

Also, 'hi new friend I was a brainwashed killer,' isn't a particularly good way to keep that friend.

Basil's voice lifted immediately.

"I understand. I mean, sort of. I have never been in this sort of a situation. My life is not only an open book to myself, but pretty much anyone else who cares to dig." He laughed awkwardly.

"But I think I can understand the concept that someone knowing your life and potential 'secrets' before you even had a chance to come to terms with it could be alarming."

"Yeah..."

Chase was quiet for a long moment, obviously gazing inward. He felt it would probably be best if nobody else here ever knew his secrets. At the same time, hiding them made him feel like a duplicitous coward.

"I... think that what I really need are just more friends, not more examination."

"I'll be your friend." Basil offered abruptly. Seemed like the thing to say anyways.

"You would? Really?" he asked, sounding almost more like a kid than a proper teenager.

"Sure. I mean, we seem to like some of the same things and our interactions so far have been pleasant enough. That's usually how friendships start.

Do you visit the Union Building?"

"Not really. I haven't been here all that long."

"It's the building next to the rec center. If I'm not here, I'm usually over there. I don't much care for my dorm. No offense to my room mate, he seems a fine enough sort, but... Well going from what I am used to to that makes me feel claustrophobic.

Anyways, if you're just looking to visit, or 'hang out' as you Yanks say, those are the places you can usually find me loitering about."

"Funny, my roommate is also invisible... either that or I don't actually have one yet, " he joked with a smile.

"Perhaps I am your room mate and I've just been sleeping in the wrong bed the whole time because I am bad at instructions." He joked back.

"That would certainly be awkward," he chuckled.

Basil started walking again now that they seemed to be in good standing again.

"I'm sure you'll get one soon and he'll probably be visible. Maybe even glow in the dark.

That would be extra awkward. Unless you are fan of night lights."

"God that would be awful," he chuckled, "I need it practically pitch black to sleep."

"He'll be incredibly useful for finding car keys however.

Let's see... Chamber of Secrets and Catching Fire I believe... " Basil commented, trying to remember the next two books.

"Finding out magical creatures are real definitely puts Harry Potter in a new light."

"mmm, I had heard something about pixies or some such nonsense?

I had to use the gym showers this morning. It was terrible."

"I never actually saw any either, only their handiwork when the cafeteria got trashed."

"That was them too? Bloody hell, glad they didn't end up in here as well. Don't know what I would have done. Probably pass out."

"Not much for throwing down the gauntlet eh?"

"Well, that's one way to put it yes." He laughed. " I was in boxing in secondary but that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish I wager."

"Yeah. Boxing has rules, a real fight doesn't."

"Exactly. I am terrible at rule breaking." He laughed.
