Researching One's Roots

Up until recently maintained as a museum, the childhood home of the Braddock family has been pressed into service as classroom space for the University. Additionally, the increased demands have led to the main ballroom being converted into a cafeteria for University students on a meal plan. The old library has been bolstered with college textbooks.

Tereza plops down in front of one of the computers in the library. Her fingers run across the keyboard as she works through the last of her misgivings. After a deep breath, she starts searching, looking for any available information on the mysterious 'Natalya' without really expecting to find anything.

Tereza's search eventually leads to Interpol's wanted database. There's a few women named Natalya in there, but the photo for "Natalya Romanov" is a dead ringer for the woman they'd met.

It's a bit of a rap sheet. Destruction of government property. Murder. Terrorist activities. Grand larceny in Madripoor.

"Runs in the family," she mutters, "Assuming she's telling the truth..." She prints out the information. Now that she has a last name, she digs deeper, hitting up some of the pro-mutant internet haunts and discussion boards that she's aware of.

After a bit of digging, it turns out that "grand larceny" in Madripoor is rather dependent upon Madripoor's fairly broad definition of property. In this case, "property" was thirty slave girls, ranging from 11 to 17 years of age that were "stolen" from a Hightown manor. Natalya is believed to have been aided in getting the girls out of Madripoor by notorious criminal Yukio, a name Tereza recognizes from talk around the mutant underground.

"So not all bad," Tereza continues to mutter to herself, chasing more information about this event in Madripoor and what Yukio might be up to now.
