Suite 201

Built on the Braddock Estate not far from the Manor, these were constructed for the university's benefit to help house the student population.

Will laughed. "What, they don't have spice on your planet? C'mon, it's not that bad, surely?" he said, taking a big, show-offy bite of his own bowl.

Naku stifled a laugh, but even his own eyes were watering from effort. He steadily continued to eat his meal. He bit into one of the hot peppers and managed a much milder reaction than Thrax. At least Naku wasn't bring attention to his tastebuds burning in fire.

He coughed a moment, wondering why he hadn't prepped himself with the most basic beverage. "Cups anywhere? I need some water," he said, ready to get up and find some himself if her wasn't assisted.

Thrax wanted to respond immediately but he had to let the burning subside before he could focus. "We do!" he eventually responded defensively. "It's just a different heat. More flavor, less edible pain. Or maybe our tastebuds are more sensitive? Everything I've eaten here has been super flavorful."

"Under the cupboard, on the left," the TinyWill shouted back, as he balanced on the edge of the shot glass to get at some of the chili deeper in. He wasn't quite on pace with NormalSized! Will because of, you know, the sheer size difference, but the difference in pace wasn't nearly as much as one would expect from the size differential.

"That's sort of fascinating, but makes a weird sort of sense. Monoforms sort of evolve to deal with what's in their habitat, and if your planet has less intense flavors in its plant and animal life, it might make sense that you evolved more sensitive taste buds to help differentiate things. Here on Earth, everything is pretty zippy."

"Thanks," he said. Naku didn't take long to get up and get himself a cup. He brought two, just in case Thrax needed one also. "If you don't drink it, I will," he said after bringing the water back.

With that, he worked on finishing his bowl in silence, listening to the other two for the moment.

"I mean, yeah, I guess that's possible, but it could just be I've been mostly living off ship rations and, even though I'm sure the food storage technology on my ship is better than what your astronauts have, I wouldn't call it flavorful. At least, not what I could afford."

He chuckled. "I kinda forgot what good food tasted like." With that, he ate some more with a pleased groan. "Which this definitely is."

Naku managed to keep from patting his stomach. It was a good meal.

"If he tells us that, would you give us a run down on places in town to visit?" Naku asked with a small, teasing smile. "If you don't know, maybe we can make a trip like true foodies," he suggested."One day, of course. Doesn't have to be any time soon."

"I've never really tried describing what my world's food is like. I mean, it's not like there's only one culinary tradition. But I guess if I had to say something it'd be that we use a lot of meat because we evolved from carnivores. We are more omnivorous now but we still prefer it; vegetarians aren't really a thing on my planet and most of our meat is grown artificially anyway. As for spices, we have this stuff we call zekri that's somewhat hot but also a little sweet. Most traditional food uses at least a little of it."

He grew visibly homesick as he spoke, letting a little personal baggage escape containment with a sad chuckle. "My dad always uses too much." Used? Storm, he didn't even know if his family was alive. He hoped they kept their heads down and renounced Saintism like the new regime demanded. Their safety was all that they should be worried about, not keeping the faith... not preserving his honor.

"Thai," Will nodded. "You're looking for Thai. Panang curry, or pad thai, or sweet chili chicken, or some combination thereof. Right!"

He stood up suddenly, picking up his bowl with one hand and sweeping the shotglass (and Tiny! Will) into it with his other hand, ignoring the tiny protest as he cleared his spot on the table. "A new quest it is, then."

Naku felt a bit bad for Thrax. it couldn't have been easy being away from family for so long. Never the less, ones entire species. He finished off his water as Will mentioned a new quest. Was this towards them and their want to explore the town? Was it something else?

He didn't push it too much. "Oh? What quest?" he wondered while looking at the green haired man.

"To find this Thai food, I assume!" Thrax chimed in, back to his usual carefree attitude though now it seemed less than entirely genuine. He was excited to try something Will thought might be like Crocutan food, sure, but he hadn't stopped missing home one bit. There wasn't a day that went by that he didn't think of his family and if they were okay, if the Saintist forces were still putting up a fight, or even just the way the wind howled between the ancient towers of the Stormsinger monastery when he was trying to sleep.

"I can hardly wait to try it."

"Indeed!" Will said, apparently no worse for wear after eating a bowl of chili, nor overly concerned about leaving the still mostly-full pot bubbling on the stove. Indeed, he dumped what was left from his bowl and shotglass -- including the Tiny! Will -- into the pot and replaced the cover.

"Getting out and about is the perfect thing to cure those blues."

Naku noticed the little one disappear into the pot. Alarmed, he pointed at it. "Uh... think you dropped an extra ingredient in there," he said before getting up to take his bowl. He would take Thrax's also if he was done with it. If he was no done, he'd let the Hyena man finish in peace.

While Naku was washing his bowl, he looked over to Will. "So when shall we begin this quest? I'm up for wandering the town today. May as well make the most of my first day," he said optimistically.

He quickly gobbled up the last of his chili so he could hand his suitemate his empty bowl. "Yeah, that... doesn't seem sanitary," the alien commented when Naku pointed out what Will had done. "Or good for him."

"Ooh! Yes! Quest! Quest! Quest!" he chanted like an excited child, his mind successfully taken off of home.

"Hrm? Oh, nothing important, I'm sure," Will smirked, his eyes twinkling over the small sound of protest coming from the pot. "But if you're concerned about sanitation, let met just turn up the heat here a little," he said, doing just that. "Perfect."

"I'm free now," he said, rolling his shoulders slightly, a light jacket apparently growing out of his chest and zipping itself up. "Always up for an adventure, I think you'll find."

He heard Will. He saw him make the jacket in an oh so chill way. Naku just couldn't let it go. "Was our entire meal Will-matter?" he asked as he made his way to take off the stove with the intent to open the lid and save little Willie.

"Storm it, Naku. I was trying really, really hard not to think about that," Thrax groaned. Sure, it wasn't technically cannibalism when he was a different species but it was still frowned upon by most civilized races to eat sapient beings. "Now I won't be able to stop thinking about it. Thanks for that."

Looking at Will he asked, "You wouldn't actually do that, right? Right?"

"A good chef never reveals all his secrets," Big!Will said, nodding. "But don't worry; there's nothing in there that you would find...unpalatable. 0% human meats or anything of that nature."

Tiny! Will sat, cross-legged on the pot, arms-crossed and pouting as it was boiling around him. "He's a real jerk, you know."

Naku blinked at the little lad just sitting there. He now questioned what they actually ate. He was more in awe that the little lad sat there while the pot was boiling. "Uh... you gonna be okay in there?" he had to wonder at little. Maybe his legs were already melted and he had to accept his fate. Was he even able to heal Will-matter? That was another question.

His attention got distracted by the others. "Um... yeah, I'd be down for exploring the area. Should we invite anyone else along?" he wondered, looking to Thrax. The only other person they both knew together was Amy, but they already were going to meet her tomorrow. Maybe it wasn't best to drag her around with the newbies just yet.

Unable to avert his attention more, he looked back to Tiny! Will."I can help you out if you want, or is this part of the circle of life for you?" he wondered.

"Eh, don't worry about him," Big!Will said, dismissively. "He'll make it back to the cau...to the room. Or he won't. Probably will, though; I've got a decent return rate when you add it all up."

Whatever sense Naku had about someone's 'chi' would certainly work on Will, as odd as he was. He certainly 'read' like a living thing though less...organized, perhaps. Perhaps it might register more as what chi felt like when Naku was mid-manipulation -- as if forces were already working on it and shaping it. Which, one supposes, as a shapeshifter, perhaps they were of sorts. After all, Will's 'true' form wasn't a tiny man in a pot of chili, right? And that jacket had to come from somewhere? Whatever lifeforce Will had was actively in use -- fairly constantly, as it turned out. Perhaps it could even be used to locate other 'Wills', hiding around -- though if so, that would just confirm Will's statement that there was nothing unnatural in the chili, which would read as, well, nothing.

Unless he could shift well enough to even get past any sense of life-force? Bloody shapeshifters.

Re: Suite 201

The potential for Naku's abilities were certainly present. He came from a situation where keeping ones powers to oneself was the way to go, so he did not reach out to catch the vibes of the room, and see where everyone's energy was at. Ever since 'the incident,' he'd pulled back on using his powers for things other than healing and combat when he needed to. Meeting Amy had been the first time he wanted to try again. Her energy was too good to pass up.

As his thoughts wandered back to the girl they'd see the next day, Naku figured he already did enough overstepping with her. "I'm just gonna..." he said as he closed the lid back. He'd stay cautious and aware of Clay Man, but he wasn't one to get in the way of whatever dynamic they set up.

He focused his attention back on the two remaining people, looking from one to the other. "I'm down with a tour of the town, just the three of us. No need to make special calls for others if it's a hassle," he said with some spark in his eyes. " I'll grab my jacket and be ready to go," he said before making his way back to their suite.
