I2: Writing down things that I don't understand

Postby Emilie » Sun Sep 06, 2015 9:03 pm

Emilie sat alone in the common room pouring over a math book, one of her hands down most hated things to do.

Why was she even trying? She knew she'd fail again. At least the first time. One go at college it took her eight tries before she made it through the basic math courses. She vaguely thought about just giving up and when she went to turn in her assignment that she'd just fill out the page with a bunch of sarcastic gobbley-gook, but she figured if she resorted to that so early the university might catch on that she wasn't overly serious about this school business and kick her out.

With a sigh, she leant her face directly into the book and sat there like that in exasperation.

"Go into my head now please." She demanded, trying to will numbers through her own thick skull.

"Man, do I know that feel," Trev chuckled setting his things down at a table next to Emilie's. "Looks like the math book?"

Emilie didn't respond at first, but behind a curtain of various shades of orange that Trev couldn't see through, she was smiling. Trevor Anderson....

She had paused to try to recall things about him. He was one of the nerd crowd, the table toppers, something Victor indulged in from time to time. He was one of the ones that tried to hide his nerdery from girls. He was from Chicago, always. Emilie liked Chicago. When she lived in Wisconsin, she'd make regular trips to Chicago on the Hartford train.

Being from Chicago, it practically promised this Trev would be a fan baseball... White Sox, now that she recalled. She was not a fan of any team. She preferred to play baseball instead of watch it. But she'd gone to a Sox game in the past with a Trev at his own insistence. An older Trev, one who had maintained contact with a Melchior through adulthood due to their relative proximity to each other.

Trevor was not a unique, but he was a repeat. How many repeats now? She tried to recall how many Trevs she had met in her life, and calculated five. Five times.

Congratulations Trevor Anderson. You are now a consistent.

Rolling her head onto her ear, Trev could partially view the friendly smile Emilie was giving him. Like she already knew him.

"Math licks goats bro."

Oddly (or not) enough, Trev was wearing a black tee with the large script Sox logo over his left breast, and a Frank Thomas #35 on the back.

He chuckled at the comment, paying more attention for the moment to pulling a textbook and a tablet out of his backpack. "Ain't that the truth." His smile almost faltered for a moment as he regarded her familiar smile. "Shit. Have we met? Was I shitfaced? I'm Trev," he said, leaning over and extending his hand across the gap between the tables.

Throwing back her multi-coloured mane over her shoulders, Emilie continued to smile. Her eyes were an unusual shade of blue which would have only been possible thanks to the X-Gene, or weird contact lenses.

"Nah man. You've never met me. I'm Emilie."

The girl in front of Trev was probably not the idea he had in his head of the campus nudist. Still having not gotten a check to raid the local Boots pharmacy with, her face and jacketless exposed shoulders were highly freckled. She was short as well as lithe, having never been blessed by the goddess of voluptuous features. She had a very prominent clavicle and her shoulders were highly sculpted which lead to her having a fairly strong handshake when she took his hand.

And she had piercings in her bottom lip in a pattern referred to as 'snake bites'.

Overall she was a small and delicate creature visually, but if 'fae-like alterna-chick redhead' was his bag then maybe she was exactly as he had imagined her.

"...you don't look much like a nudist," Trev blurted out before reddening considerably. "Oh god. Context. You have none. Uh. I met your roommate the other day. She uh...had some interesting things to say about you."

He rubbed the back of his neck nervously, "nice to meet you though."

Emilie didn't seem bothered by Trev's observations. On the contrary, she laughed.

"Ooooooh so you've met Mrs.Grundy then. What a lucky ducky you are.

No I am not a nudist, but I am also not what my room mate would want me to be. Having said that, I doubt anyone is want my room mate would want them to be from what I am starting to gather. I keep getting apologies and sad looks when I mention who's in my room with me."

Emilie shrugged casually. "It's whatever man. In the last bit of time I've become exceptionally good with childish temperaments and the older I get, the worse I get at cultivating my field of fucks given." She smirked.

"Chicago huh?" She asked, changing the topic.

"Yeah how'd you--" Trev stopped himself and looked down at his shirt. "--shirt probably helps, I suppose," he chuckled. "Obviously an American if you know baseball logos. Where you from?"

"Nowhere and everywhere. Mostly the Midwest proper and parts of Canada and NYC for good measure. S'why my accent is so muddled. I don't even." She laughed. "I can beer and brats and fish fry with the best of them."

Trev chuckled, "that's awesome. I'd kill for a good brat and cheap watery American beer right now. These Brits have got us on the fish though. Fried fish game here is on point."

"Haven't been able to wander from campus, still waiting on a paycheck.

But I'm more of a Leinie gal anyways. If it don't taste like liquid pancakes or fruit, it ain't going down." She laughed.

"No fish and chips yet? Man. We should fix that. I'll buy for a fellow Midwesterner," he smiled, for the moment blissfully unaware that this half sounded like an invitation for a date with a cute girl.

"Ah man, I can't letcha do that... You should keep your money for you.

You could spot me though and I could pay you back?"

Emilie was aware, but she also knew that even if Trev *had* found her attractive (he never seemed to before) his tone suggested that in this instance, he was just bein' a bro.

"Whenever, man. Probably, or we could hoof it if we left early enough. Gimme a year or two and I might be able to fly us. Not there yet though," he chuckled.

"Heh, it's ok man. I've hoofed it before. Flying is kind of overrated. Makes me nauseous actually.

You care if a friend of mine tags along?"
