The spot was a good one, at first blush. Some people hang Christmas lights or paper lanterns in their dorms; an actual Faerie light wasn't that far out of the realm of plausibility. After a couple false starts, Will was casting a pleasant blueish-white glow from the lantern; a welcome change from the cheap LED lighting college students could afford.
And because this was a dorm room for telepaths, that wasn't all there was to this new lantern. Much like a lantern emitted light to please the eyes, or a stick of incense emitted scents to please the nose, Will emitted sort of a serene vibe for the sixth sense; a wafting sense of peace and tranquility for those with the proper senses to be attuned to it. This wasn't a unique property of the lantern; everyone emits a sort of emotional fingerprint which telepaths can pick up on, with some being more intense than others. But the act of broadcasting it as the lantern enhanced it to being more noticeable and pervasive; almost performative.
This was pleasant, at least for a while. But after a few hours of it, the light started changing colors some, shining brighter and dimmer at different times, and the emotional waft began to alter and fluctuate as well...
