Room 116: My Imaginary Friend

Sean walked with Hannah down the hallway towards Sam's room.

"So... I suppose you just stand next to me and try to draw attention to yourself," Sean said as they were walking up to Sam's door.

"So you don't have to acknowledge me and look crazy if she can't see me?" she asks, managing to make it sound more curious than bitter.

"Yes and well, not think I'm more crazy than she likely already thinks I am," Sean sad, "The magic thing makes most people wonder already."

Sean paused and then knocked on Sam's door.

"Just a second, Sean!" Comes Sam's muffled voice from inside.

How she knew isn't immediately obvious, but there's a vague impression of feathers brushing past them.

Footsteps are heard and Sam goes to open the door.

On the other side of the door she finds Sean, as her telepathy has already told her. Next to him is nothing. Although it's a very peculiar spot of nothing that feels like there should be something there. It's really a number of things, for starters Sean is standing slightly to the side as if he he's one of two people standing in front of the door and along with his body language and his mental impression Sam just kind of knows that he's not alone. But aside from that there's another, deeper feeling that's nagging her. Like something about the empty spot next to Sean just isn't right, some kind of presence that doesn't belong.

Meanwhile Hannah's eyes go wide when Sam opens the door. "Whoa... who is she?" she can't help herself but ask and when it becomes clear that Sam's eyes aren't focusing on her she takes a step forward and leans in close, waving her hand in front of Sam's eyes while still looking at her in what can only be called awe. The words don't quite reach Sam's ears, but she can hear something, like a distant howling of the wind or a voice echoing far away in a tunnel.

"Hi Sam," Sean says once Sam opened the door. He had a slightly awkward smile seeing as well he wasn't sure what was about to happen.

"What's... what's going on here?" Sam asks, confusion playing over her features as she looks beside Sean.

The flock are everywhere, probing around her like she's picking at a loose thread, trying hard to figure out just what's there.

"Dude, you didn't tell me she's made of birds!"

Sean looked over at Hannah.

"I'm pretty sure she's not made of-," Sean said before stopping himself and looking back at Sam, "This is going to sound more bloody ridiculous than usual, but I may have used magic to pull somebody between dimensions because... well, I thought they were in trouble at the time and I'm not entirely sure if they're...uh, visible."

"I can't... really see anyone there, but there's something there."

"This feels... really weird."

"Yeah she is, look!" Reaching out Hannah tries to grab a hold of one of the ravens. It passes right through her fingers, but that definitely gets Sam's attention. For a moment the translucent image of a blonde girl hangs in the air and for a split second Sam's instincts tell her to peck her apart with hundreds of beaks.

"Well, that at least means I haven't completely lost my mind," Sean said, "Sh-er, Hannah sees the ravens."

"She more than sees them," Sam says, stiffening as the flock bristles, hundreds of eyes turned towards Hannah.

"...and now I can see her," she grits her teeth.

"She shouldn't be here, Sean."

Hannah freezes when hundreds of bird eyes suddenly turn to look at her. "S-sorry..."

"I mean, no Hannah belongs on her home plane, but it was bring her here or watch her get eaten by monsters," Sean said, "Not the most difficult choice I've ever made."

"No, I mean she... she feels wrong, Sean. It's hard to explain."

"That's a feeling I understand all too bloody well," Sean said, "Maybe we just go to my workshop. Maybe we can figure out this mess and turn that into an explanation."

"Rude. I am right here, you know." Hannah points out. And as much as she feels like she should be fodder for the Ravens and dragged off to... elsewhere, she did make contact with that Raven without even the hint of any telepathic link whatsoever.

"It's a biy t odd that she can see the ravens isn't it?" Sean asked.

"How's that odd? They're literally coming out of her."

"No more odd that she's there but not there. Or that she can touch them. Or that I feel like I should... never mind."

"There's a lot going on here, Sean."

"Or that she can touch me and not everything else, but yes lots going on. Little that we understand," Sean said before looking at Hannah, "They are but... it's something that most people can't even feel much less see."

"Glad to be helpful." Hannah says, giving two thumbs-up, pretending to handle this better than she really is with a crooked smile. "But, uhm... yeah. I'm Hannah, serial victim? Penultimate Girl? Something like that."

Sean smiled at Hannah thumbs up.

"Penultimate girl?" Sean asked looking at Hannah before looking back at Sam. "She has died... many times."

"You know, like the Final Girl. The one that survives the horror movie. Except not." she says as if that should be obvious.

"...maybe I wasn't the best person to bring her to."

"The list of people who wouldn't think I'd lost my mind talking about an invisible person I pulled between planes was fairly short," Sean sad with a weak smile. "I'm not sure what she's supposed to be."

Hannah puts on bit of a 'whelp' smile. It's obvious that her existence is kind of inconvenient, even if she's not really sure why.

"If you're gonna psychopomp me then you're a little late to the party." she says before realizing she probably shouldn't antagonize the Raven-Lady too much and takes half a step backwards. "And if that place he pulled me from is supposed to be the afterlife I'm sure as hell not going back there."

"Alright. I just... don't want to hurt her," she says with an apologetic look in Hannah's direction as she steps out into the hallway and locks the door.
