"I-I just..." Colette's expression was one of shame and a little bit of fear, like a dog when it's been scolded.

"When I came in and I saw you two I zought - I couldn't help it, I just saw you being kissed and I zought it. And zen I remembered how you said I don't trust you and zis relationship and you explained everyzing and I was ashamed of what I had zought and... and...." The French girl was babbling she was speaking so quickly, not taking the time to choose her words as she normally did, her voice becoming more garbled as she became more upset. In mid-sentence and tears welling in her eyes she turned and started toward the door back to the dorms.

"It's not your fault." Basil replied to Haley, not sounding particularly upset. " She doesn't trust me and thinks I am lying to her all the time. If it wasn't you, it would have been someone else.

Make sure to text me those details I need for the tickets!" He said as he departed after Colette.

"Oi! Stop running!" He said, not really sure what to say to Colette to get her to stop.

Part of the way down the hallway Colette did indeed stop, her sobbing fading into a little whimper. It wasn't until Basil drew closer that she tried to speak.

"... how dare you."

Re: "Sadness is a vice."

"I come into ze room to find a woman kissing you. Of course you know what my first zoughts were. What would yours have been had our situation been reversed? What would you had zought had you walked into zat room and seen a man kissing me?" Colette turned around to stare at Basil, the sadness in her voice giving way to anger.

"But did I level accusations at you? Did I rush over and pull Madame Crusek off of you? No, I did not. Because even zough I may have zought what I did I still trusted you, and I trusted you to tell me ze truz and explain yourself. I was willing to be patient, and it was Madame Crusek who was more forzcoming zan you. I am sorry if I show my emotions too much but you can hardly blame me for taking some time to come down from ze, ze... adrenaline rush."

Colette's voice was growing louder as her mass shifted so that she was no longer looking up at Basil, but down at him. And perhaps it was fortunate that she began speaking in French since it meant that fewer people in the surrounding rooms would understand what he was being scolded for.

"I apologized, but that was not enough for you. You had the audacity to admonish me for reacting in any manner to seeing the man I am in love with being kissed by another woman, to vilify me for the fault of having emotions like any other human being. This was a matter that we could have discussed in private, a silly misunderstanding that we could have all laughed about. But instead you chose to humiliate me in front of Miss Crusek. Do you think I do not feel ashamed for having jumped to such a conclusion as I did? You told me how much thinking such things hurts you Basil, and hurting you is the last thing I wish to do. That was why I was upset Basil, not because of what I had seen but because of what I had allowed myself to think for even a moment. When you saw that I was upset did it never occur to you to console me in some way? No, instead you chose to belittle me.

"And then you dare to speak down to me and command me as though I were some dog who sits and heels at your every beck and call?"
It was at that moment that Colette drew her hand back and struck her palm and fingers across Basil's cheek with a loud, wet slap. Being made of jelly meant it didn't sting nearly as much as it sounded, but it did leave a rather damp and unsettling aftermath to his face and shirt.

"I thought you were a man of honour and character, Basil Oliver Benson, but it appears that I was gravely mistaken." Condensing to a more typical shape for her, Colette turned on her heels and headed down the hallway toward her own lodgings, and could be heard muttering "espèces de mérinos mal peignés" as she left.

Unfortunately, Basil didn't have the response she was probably hoping for, he didn't feel ashamed. He probably would have had she not slapped him.

Upon the assault to his person, Basil became fully visible and was smirking and holding his left hand to his liquid coated cheek, his other hand over his mouth to stifle himself.

Everything she wanted to impress upon him was more or less dashed away with the strike as he began tittering like an idiot as she walked away.

"Hey wait!" He said amid laughter. " Don't go yet! I'm sorry!"

He didn't sound sorry.

"Wait, wait, wait, waaaiiiiittt." He continued, following behind her like a lost puppy while simultaneously untucking his shirt from his waistband.

"I can't apologize properly if you keep walking away." He said. Basil usually had the longer gait of the two and was right up behind her now, but avoided touching her.

Colette stopped and turned around, and her expression wasn't nearly as bitter as Basil might have expected. This was probably due in part to Basil actually being visible, but perhaps also because how ridiculous he looked with her "jam" all over the side of his face. So instead of a death glare it came across more as an angry pout.

"What is it, Monsieur Benson."

"I am sorry." Basil said, finally composing himself.

"I jumped to conclusions myself before giving you a chance because I am used to you assuming the worst in a scenario, and I shouldn't have.

I need to give you the opportunity to speak before making assumptions about what's on your mind.

I was not looking to humiliate you. I just...

When you react that way it makes me feel like a piece of shit and I lashed out.

And I just wanted to stop you and that was the first thing that came to mind."

"Oh, so I get to be your first? Well do not worry, I will be gentle wiz you Basil." Rather than just having Basil help with certain odds and ends Colette measured out the ingredients one at a time and had him add them, mixing in the milk, graham cracker crumbs, walnuts, and chocolate chips. The way she spoke was very much how she might have taught a child, though not nearly as patronizing.
