Two of the washing machines were currently in use with Gemma seated in front of them, reading through the copy of Zen and the Difficult Workplace that Will had given her for Christmas. Folded in her lap were a pair of thin gloves.

"So does Viv do her own laundry?" Sam asks as she makes her way down with a basket of her own.

Gemma inserts a bookmark and looks up. "Not if I can help it. It's part of my duties to make sure her clothing is presentable."

"I imagine an embarrassingly large amount of it is hand-wash only," she says as she starts loading up an empty machine.

"Less than you'd think. She doesn't wear the handwash things as much these days. Of course, there was a lot of handwashing until I determined how these monstrosities worked," she gestures at the washing machines. "Now she has a pair of jeans with all these rips in them that she insists should not be fixed, so I'll have to determine how to wash those." She rolls her eyes.

"If you have them handy I can probably figure something out."

Gemma fishes in a basket and pulls out a pair of jeans with some sets of parallel slashes in the denim. The edges of the slashes were very rough, obviously not done with scissors. "Here they are."

"...okay, I think I know why she doesn't want these mended," she smirks with a chuckle.

"I'm glad you understand it," she says. "Bad enough that these won't protect you from anything, even when they're whole."

"It's fashion, Gemma. In this case it's autographed fashion," she says, splaying her fingers to trace the slash marks to give Gemma a clue.

Gemma watches the motion and then raises an eyebrow. "Ah, the werewolf. I see. I guess it's good that you're amused by it."

"I trust her," Sam shrugs. "She doesn't try to hide things from me."

"I wasn't accusing her of anything. I just find werewolves to be unpredictable allies at best and this one... well, her relationship with the Lady is... complicated." She was dancing very carefully with her words.

"My relationship with Viv is pretty complicated too."

She tilts her head, acknowledging that. "Vivienne is... in a strange spot. I want to see her happy. I hope she is on that road... if her hunt doesn't break her."

"I really want to see her in a better situation myself. I rather hope she gets to stick around after everything's sorted."

"If things go the way I expect, we will both be around for the rest of our lives," Gemma says, pulling laundry out of one of the washers.

Gemma gets very interested in the laundry. "Would you be happy never being able to go home? Not to say there aren't nice things here, but would you?"

"No, I... suppose that was a bit selfish of me to say."

"I just know Tereza really missed Viv while she was gone."

"And Vivienne really missed her. But Vivienne is half human, I am not. With a few exceptions, my kind don't fare well long term here. I wouldn't want to bet on being one of the exceptions."

"I may have to take you up on that. I can't imagine Vivienne will want to go home, since I don't think she considers the other side 'home'."

"I might have gone a little... stir-crazy as you say, but I have better discipline than to sword fight the armor."

"It's a possibility. Though I'm not much of a singer. Someone, your werewolf I take it given the source of the jeans, seems to think Vivienne is. I've never heard her sing myself."

"It seems that education in this world is lacking in a number of ways," she comments, tossing laundry in the dryer before pulling on her gloves to work the controls.
