Stephanie hadn't moved from her position seated at her desk for an impressively long time, a large textbook open in front of her on her desk: a book that had not been touched in at least 15 minutes. She started snoring before her roommate would worry she had died in her chair, late afternoon sun streaming through the window and warming her from behind.

"Oi!" Emilie called out loudly in an attempt to wake her once she realized she had fallen asleep.

"Ya sit like that t'nap, yer gonna ruin your back and neck kid."

She flipped the page of a magazine casually.

Steph started awake at the shout and very nearly fell out of her chair with a yelp. “Sorry...was I snoring? I snore sometimes...”

Emilie laughed.

"Yea I already knew that. I was more concerned you were gonna wake up and not be able to walk.

Long night?"

Steph’s cheeks reddened, “If it wasn’t so much more comfortable sleeping like a human I would go back to squeezing into the bed shifted. I wasn’t snoring as much then. I don’t. Think so at least.”

She rubbed her eyes and smoothed her hands over her face, “and not a long night just....ugh this history textbook...”

Stephanie seemed to stiffen in her seat a bit at the mention of her friend who she kept completely ignoring.

“....I probably should just...suck it up and talk to him finally. I’ve been avoiding him for like weeks.”

"Probably.

Steph snorted, a smile crossing her face again. “Well what good are you to me then?” she teased

Without looking up from her magazine, Emilie clenched her teeth together and proceeded to state in the creepiest of voices-"heybeebeeyouneedaridesomewhereigotchuuuuuuuuu."

“With a voice like that you should probably be driving a windowless van with “free candy” spraypainted on the side,” she laughed .

"I can't afford a panel van, just a scooter Vic keeps leaving in fucked up places." Emilie tossed the magazine aside in boredom and frustration.

" So what are you studying exactly?"

“Trying to keep straight a lot of hard to pronounce names and dates and events from southeastern Europe. I think I’d rather do calculus and man, do I hate math,”

Sometimes Emilie could bluff her way through American history if it was 20th century, but this was beyond her. She made a face that looked disgusted for a second, and she picked up a trashcan.

"Wanna burn it and go do some hoodrat shit instead?"

“Oh my lord, yes, she grinned, slamming the book closed and rising to her feet. “What did you have in mind?”

"I dunno. Day drinking. Smoking with cigarettes. Speeding around on scooters. The norm.

What do you like to do?"

“Scooters sound fun. Never really rode any before since I was worried I’d hurt myself, but I apparently heal pretty fast so....let’s do it,” she grinned.

"We'll go out on the school grounds and I'll teach you. You can wear my helmut."
