Home to Roost

In total she'd spend well over a week in Muir, according to her notes and the calendar. Between this and her mad scramble to save her parents before she'd spend barely a day at the school during the last two or three weeks. Most of which she'd spend either fighting or in a hospital. That alone should be enough to make her question her life-choices, but somehow she doesn't regret anything. She'd done what needed to be done and stopped Hazard and the only thing weighing on her mind now is how long it'll be before she can go out again and how much work it's going to be to get her body back into shape. In some ways her memory issues helped with that. She doesn't really remember her time in the hospital so it's hard to grow impatient about her healing. From her point of view she woke up after her battle with Hazard in remarkably good shape. According to her journal she woke up in a panic at first, but it seemed to have diminished. A little. The idea of having defeated Hazard seems to be slowly seeping into her subconsciousness and somehow she just knows to reach for her journal, even if she wakes up without any conscious awareness of it's existence. Which meant that things weren't just gone entirely. Part of her narrowed in on the important things, the repeated bits. That meant she could still train herself and make progress.

And she had her notes. In a way it was like her past self is sending her messages, which seems ironic to her. It felt weird to write things addressing herself like a completely different person, a strange dread about the person she's right in this moment somehow ending and an impostor taking her place the next day. A stupid thought, she's herself right now after all and reading through her entries in the journal reassures her. It reads... natural to her and reminds her that there's still a connection. That and the fact that she can turn her mental eye towards the future. She might feel disconnected and afloat sometimes, but when her thoughts about it grow too dark she has ways to prove to herself that there's still a coherent path linking it all together.

She's shaken out of her thoughts when the car comes to a stop with the crunching of gravel and she looks out the window to see the dorm and off to the side the familiar mansion. She let's out a deep sigh and waits for the driver to open the door for her while she gets her crutch sorted out. She scoots herself out of the door and rolls her shoulder a little, the joint a bit stiff from the long ride. Finally she makes her way to the dorm and waves the driver off when he moves to assist her. Instead she spreads her wings demonstratively and beats them as she pushes herself off the ground with her good leg. She can fly, what's a couple steps. She wobbles a little sticking the landing at the top of the stairs on only one leg, but she feels infinitely better about a less than perfect landing than letting somebody help her up the steps. The stairs inside are a little more daunting, but she has a hand-rail to help her and nobody to try and impress, so she can take her time.

Finally she gets to her room and roughly sits down on her bed. "Freaky..." she mumbles.

There's a few new plants on Wanda's desk and a couple of new pictures sitting on her desk.

A few minutes after she arrives, Wanda lets herself into the room. She seems a little surprised to see Nailah, but her smile is genuine. "Nailah, how are you doing? It's been..." She sees the crutch. "... a while."

"Hi Wanda. Yeah... Rough couple weeks, I guess." she says with a weak smile of her own.

Wanda sits down on her bed. "For everyone to varying degrees. What happened?" She gestures at the crutch.

"Guy with a bear-trap for a head got me..." she says a bit evasively. "But I still won."

"Winning is good. We had some weird thing where we were all in television shows? I don't really understand what happened. I was sick for most of it."

"Dang... Glad to see everything's fine. Everything is fine, right?"

"Sort of. Seems like everyone's recovering from something in one way or another, but the inside of the Point's apparently a mess."

"I remember it was closed for something when I left... If it hadn't been for that buttwipe Hazard I could have been here to help!"

"The others had it handled. Apparently the fey princess teamed up with one of the resident technopaths while everyone else kept the bad guys busy. Or something like that. I haven't gone looking for a play-by-play and I wasn't paying attention at the time. And besides, you kept something bad from happening, right?" Wanda seems to have some faith in Nailah making the right decision.

"I did. Barely." she says, lifting her cast up just a tad. "Gonna take some adjusting."

"If there's anything I can do to help or if you need me to rearrange the room to make it easier for you, just ask."

"Nah, it's fine, I'll manage. But... uhm... don't be alarmed or anything, I'm having some trouble with my memories. So if I'm being weird, that's why. If there's anything, like, important it might be best to write me a note. Prolly gonna be around more than before too."

“I think I can handle notes. What sort of things are you having trouble remembering? That’ll help me know if I need to write a note or not.”

"Kinda... everything. They said my ability to form long-term memories is impaired."

Wanda seems genuinely sad, "That's awful. Hopefully it's a short term thing. I know a few things that I should probably leave notes on. Isolde for one."

"She and I are sort of dating, so she may come by looking for me and that's okay. Given her previous occupation, it would be understandable if you thought that was strange. But it's okay to let her know where I am if you know."

Wanda raises an eyebrow. "Yes, it's perfectly alright."

"No kidding. Uhm..." she looks around the base of her bed for a moment, then back up at Wanda. "Would you mind helping me with something? There should be a bag pushed all the way to the wall underneath my bed..."

Wanda nods and gets down, pulling the bag out from under the bed. She sets it on the bed next to Nailah, moving back to her own bed to sit. "That the one?"

The bag is pretty heavy for how empty it feels, lifting it up.

"That's the one. Thanks." she says and pulls it open, checking it's contents briefly before moving a bunch of stuff back into it. Pepper-spray, zip-ties, a pair of batons. A pretty decent crime-fighting loadouts, basically. As she's stashing stuff she comes across the books. She'd almost forgotten about them, but as she's putting her things away for the foreseeable future they draw her attention and she carefully takes them out of the bag and unwraps the old t-shirt she'd wrapped them in.

Wanda regards the books a bit, "I've been meaning to ask where you got those."

"The books? They belonged to an old man I failed to help. Youseff. I think he was here to save the sun from going out and he was killed for it..."

Wanda bites her lip, "Yeah, I know about the group that wanted the sun to go out. They kidnapped me and almost succeeded."

"I haven't tried to learn Arabic myself yet," she says, moving to where she can see the pages. "If it's something important, there might be someone on the campus who can."
