The mission had reinforced what he already knew -- he was a crap person. Didn't really participate in the rescue of Erika; couldn't help her when she woke up. Useless. An embarrassment to...well, pretty much everything.

Much better if he just sat in here. Nice and out of the way, where he couldn't hurt anyone. Good plan.
