Special Ingredient

Miriam had asked Will (the fun one) to meet her in the communal kitchen. She was fairly certain Will would show up, but over the last couple weeks she's gotten used to knowing for sure Will would do as told. And the one time she didn't... well... Needless to say it leaves Miriam somewhat nervously pacing around in the kitchen contemplating how much easier it would have been to make sure and just disregard how wrong that would have been. Doing the right thing is hard.

"You know, you're going to wear a hole in the floor if you keep pacing like that," Will grinned, leaning up against the door frame.

"You came." Miriam says before she can stop herself, immediately regretting stating the obvious and giving away her anxieties.

"I saw, I conquered," Will smirked, entering the kitchen.

"This is rather...domestic of you, don't you think?"

Miriam can sense something lingering in the hallways. Something surly and predatory and oddly familiar.

"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. I need to make some apology cookies and even if I knew how I'd still need your help to make them... special." she says, turning her head as if she could somehow see through the wall of the kitchen.

"Who's there?" she calls out after stopping herself from probing the mind to find out herself.

"Someone who knows how to bake cookies," Isolde says nonchalantly as she shoulders in after Will.

"You're going to have to spell out how you want me to make them 'special'" Will smirked.

"Filled with 'wuv'? Or did you want a 50 pound note in each one?" she laughed.

"Maybe this was a bad idea..." she says, glancing at Isolde. It's hard to tell if she's embarrassed or clamming up in front of Isolde.

"Bad ideas are usually the best ideas, because it's that annoying little voice in the back of your head telling you not to do things, to play it safe, to be boring.

Fortunately, I dumped the little voice in the back of my head back in the dorm room, so I don't have your hangups."

Will stuck a finger in his mouth, it turning into a ref's whistle as he blew.

"Foul! Starting off a conversation with an accusation of deception, five point penalty," he said. "Play nice, you two."

"I am being nice, and I am here to help you bake cookies."

"I'm German. I honestly could probably make a whole house of them."

"Unless you wanted to... change my mind?"

"I could if I wanted to." Miriam says, trying to sound like she's playing nice, but only partially succeeding. "And I'm making proper cookies, not dog biscuits."

"Are you sure? There are enough wolves around here that they might go over like hotcakes. They should rename the dorms the kennels, I swear to God."

"Yes, I suppose you could."

"But if you're determined to not be my friend, there are certainly... alternatives."

"I'm making cookies for one particular person and I don't need her new lapdog around to make threats as I do."

"Let me put it a different way. I'm fairly certain I know what you did while we were dancing."

"If you want to act like you're the one put upon here, these won't be threats."

"I'm trying to make things right." she hisses. "If you're not going to let me then my opinion of how good you are for Wanda is somehow going to sink even lower."

"Just don't think I'll lose even an ounce of sleep over what you think of me."

"Great." Miriam scoffs and turns to Will.

"Is it okay if I reach into your head for a moment?"

"It's not... More like..." Miriam trails off as she realizes that her view of this is probably different from everyone else to begin with. "It doesn't matter."

Reaching out with her mind she delves into Will's head, searching for what she left behind in an attempt to... turn him into something that would fill the hole that leaving Wanda had left her with, really. Easier to be honest with herself, it'd help her find the mask of memories that must have gotten buried somewhere in Will's psyche.

"Left something behind when you made this one?"

Will's eyes sort of glazed over as Miriam made mental contact.

Reconstruction was beginning apace in Will's mind, with plenty of cranes and bulldozers beginning to repair the damage that Mel (and, lets be honest, Miriam) had left behind. Lots of walls being erected this time - as opposed to the more open plan of Will's earlier mind, this one seemed to have lots of room for obstruction and claustrophobia in the grand design.

The torn up nature of the mindscape, in the construction, would mean finding anything buried would be a simple task.

In the real world Miriam reaches out towards Will's head, but then hesitates, taking his hand instead.

In the mindscape her ribbons of cloth sink into the clay between the reconstructed areas and seek out the foreign cluster of memories. Painful ones, to her, but bittersweet as well as she pulls them free of the grey matter of Will's thoughts. It doesn't take much more prodding to coax the silvery mask into the idea of a pastry. Memories wrapped in sweets follows well established thought patterns and she makes Will turn his hand into a handful of anisette cookies. Delicious but with a harsh sweetness of licorice to it and full of things forgotten.

"Nnnnn," Will grunted, as the memories (not his, but still) were extracted.

"Be...be careful with those, they'll go straight to your hips."

"Or your head."

Once she withdraws from Will's head she quickly becomes aware of Isolde's presence again and a shadow falls over her face. "Is this acceptable." she asks Wanda's self-appointed bodyguard.

"Just bloody take them and make sure Wanda eats them!" Miriam snaps and thrusts the cookies at Isolde. She was going to leave them at Wanda's door with a note in an attempt to make a gesture, but it's obvious Isolde is set on ruining this. "I want this to be over."

"Nothing's ever over, girl."

She takes the plate, sniffing at them suspiciously.

"I mean, yeah, but she's not so bad once you get to know her," Will called out after her.

Will was helping.
