Clean Up On Dorm Hallway 2

[Laura Weston]

Laura had retrieved one of the janitorial vacuums and was currently vacuuming the hallway where one of the roombas had decided to disgorge its contents all over the carpet. No sense letting anyone track this around after all.

[Katarina Karkov]

"Oh my, what happened here?" Katarina said, coming up to the scene of the mess.

[Laura Weston]

"I don't know. Looks like one of the robot cleaners malfunctioned while everyone was tiny," Laura says, finishing up the vacuuming. "Didn't seem good to leave it sitting around."

[Katarina Karkov]

"Don't they have people to take care of this?

...Are you one of the people who take care of this?"

[Laura Weston]

"Technically, I think that's why they have the robot vacuums," she says, "but obviously that's not working well right now and with all the other things recently, I thought it would be easier to take care of it myself than bother the staff."

[Katarina Karkov]

"Huh. Well, I mean, that's what they're there for, but I suppose, if you're having a good time..."

[Laura Weston]

"I don't know if I would classify this as a 'good' time, but my parents taught me to take care of this sort of stuff, you know?"

[Katarina Karkov]

"Well, maybe you should speak to the administration. It seems like you should be getting paid, at the very least."

[Laura Weston]

"I mean, I don't do this all the time. Just this once," she says, a little surprised.

[Katarina Karkov]

"Still, though. I mean...

work," she said, with visible distaste.

[Laura Weston]

"Is there something wrong with work?" Laura raises an eyebrow as she wraps up the vacuum's cord.

[Katarina Karkov]

"It's just so much...

No, there are people to do this sort of thing. You shouldn't have to worry about it; just file a support ticket and forget about it."

[Laura Weston]

"And if they're busy cleaning up messes elsewhere? Nothing but a little time and effort on my part. Just because there's someone to clean it up, that doesn't mean I should leave it for them to do. Sure, I'll let someone know about the vacuum, but I can handle this just fine."

[Katarina Karkov]

"Well, I mean, if they aren't here to clean this up, then what are they getting paid for? It seems like this is just the common sense."

[Laura Weston]

"Probably cleaning up a bigger mess somewhere else or dealing with the aftermath of being shrunk."

[Katarina Karkov]

"How did you get on in the shrunken times, anyway?

...Did you break the vacuum cleaner? Is that why you're working with it?"

[Laura Weston]

"No, I didn't break the vacuum. I spent my time trying to fly which doesn't work quite as well with these wings when they're small."

[Katarina Karkov]

"Oh, is that what it is you do? That's neat.

Why would it not work when small?"

[Laura Weston]

"It's some of what I do... and I don't know why it didn't. It was very frustrating."

[Katarina Karkov]

"Yes, well, we were all very frustrated, I'm sure. It is still not clear exactly what happened, but it was not good, whatever it was."

[Laura Weston]

"I'm sure the science-types are currently in the Point assessing the situation. That sounded like one of them on the PA system before the situation undid itself."

[Katarina Karkov]

"Again, we all have our roles to play, do we not?"

[Laura Weston]

"I..." She frowns, mostly at herself, "That's different. I don't get how they do what they do. But I do understand how to operate a vacuum."

[Katarina Karkov]

"Do not worry! I am sure this is just as important," Katarina smiled.

[Laura Weston]

"I just like helping when I can, that's all."

[Katarina Karkov]

"Good for you! I'm sure the janitors will be thankful."

[Laura Weston]

"I'm not... that's not..." Laura sighs and lets it drop. "I'm Laura, Laura Weston. I don't think we've been properly introduced."

[Katarina Karkov]

"Katarina Karkov. A pleasure, Laura."

[Laura Weston]

"So how did you fare during the shrinking?"

[Katarina Karkov]

"Not so great," she frowned.

"Well, I was alright, but my..."


"..."



"...friend Jezebelle suffered tremendously. I tried to take her mind off of it, but you know how it goes."

[Laura Weston]

"I'm sorry to hear that. Is she okay now?"

[Katarina Karkov]

"I think it perhaps takes some time to recover from such an experience, no?"

[Laura Weston]

"I suppose it does," Laura says. "Well, I hope she feels better."

[Katarina Karkov]

"I'll pass it along, thanks.
