"Wait... That's a real major?" he asked with a laugh and a raised brow.

"Same way you talk to a rat, 'cept fancier.

It thinks it's fancier 'cause'a the tail you see."

He brought his monstrous tail around. "Fancier than mine."

"Definitely.... But I mean, they're poncy jerks.

Haven't you seen how dainty they scamper round like they own a public garden?" "

Ainsley's face twisted in a fashion it might if he laughed, but his mouth didn't open and he was silent both out loud and in Leo's mind. His shoulders shook heavily.

Ainsley paused.

He gave his roommate a perplexed look. "What?"

"My laughter doesn't translate... but seems like everything else is.

Most animals don't laugh, and the animal parts of your brain is what is allowing this....

But you laugh just fine.

I think you needn't worry that you are more animal than man my friend."

"So laughing proves I'm still a person?" he said curiously, "I never thought of that."

Friend? You barely know me.

Some barrier between Leo's conscious thoughts and his unconscious ones kept Ainsley from knowing his personal feelings.

Ainsley shrugged, reaching out to pick up a sketch pad.

"Food for thought."

Noting the sketch pad, he asked, "So whatcha been drawin'?"

"Mostly students." He says, holding out his sketchbook for Leo to peruse. Ainsley's style of choice was semi-realism and he was good at it, but there was an obvious anime influence to his work.

"Otaku much," he smirked as he carefully turned pages like he was afraid he'd tear the sketchbook apart, "Just kiddin'. It's good. I bet semi-anime me would look wicked badass."

"Unless you need me naked," he teased.

"There's No French girls to draw you like.

Unless we are counting the gelatinous cube dating aforementioned librarian."
Ainsley replied, making himself comfortable.

"I tend to draw people casual. Just be You."

He relaxed and sat on the edge of his bed, which creaked loudly. He simply did his best to look casual.

Ainsley shook his head, smirking. The problem was he was trying to be casual, which made it very.... not.

"Tell me about Boston." He said, tapping his pencil against his pad.

"I dunno, it's home. I grew up there with my mom. It's a pretty good place to live I guess. It's... old. Not England old but it has more to it than most of America. My mom liked to experience the history of the place, always taking me to museums and stuff when I was a kid like we were friggin' tourists," he said, growing a little sad.

"It sounds lovely."He observes in return, trying to somewhat distract him from the topic of his mother, which obviously made him sad.

"Not the word I'd use but, sure, lovely. One of the best cities to live in. At least I think I read that somewhere. I didn't grow up in the best neighborhood, though not a slum or anything," he continued, moving on to describing his home turf in a mostly positive light.

"The Red Sox," he answered as it were obvious. "And that's the worst thing about movin' here. No friggin' baseball. Soc... football just ain't the same. Not at all!"

He was getting pretty animated now and his accent was getting more pronounced. Though he wasn't yet pahking his cah in da cah pahk.

He immediately locked his positivity away. "After my mom died about four years ago, my aunt and uncle in London took me in. My dad left when I was five, so that was the only family I had."

He sounded agitated as he said, "As what? Security? I bet the tour groups would just love that."

"Besides, America isn't any place for obvious mutants these days. And Boston was never great for mutants anyway."

Despite his irritation, Ainsley remained cool.

"You could get your major in some kind of museum topic and become a curator." He offered helpfully. "Perhaps not in Boston. Perhaps here, in the UK."
