[Plot] Okay Campers, Rise and Shine

[Miriam Bell]

Miriam is not a morning person and right now she deeply regrets setting her phone alarm to an internet radio station the night before as the little rectangle springs to live with a tinny song.

"They say we're young and we don't know, we won't find out unti-i-il we g--" The song is cut short by the phone being flung across the room, only to continued, muffled from where it landed in a pile of clothes.

Sensations flood Miriam's suddenly conscious mind. The zen-like state of the Will making up her bed does little to lighten her mood today. Beyond that the gratingly familiar texture of the other occupants of the dorm. There's something especially frustrating about the exact pattern of thoughts, even distant ones, being burned into her mind like a familiar ceiling or that bloody song. She briefly considers pulling her blanket back over her head and staying in bed but then she'd just have to endure the laminar flow of thoughts outside maintaining it's perfectly undisturbed path and something about that sets her teeth on edge.

So she emerges and gets dressed, throwing open the door into the common room with enough force to shatter the continuous deja-vu of thoughts around her with a loud bang. Miriam's pale complexion has a tendency to make her look haggard when she doesn't put in the effort to give herself an air of aristocracy, but something about her is worse than usual today. She doesn't have any bags under her eyes, the regular devouring of blood makes sure her body is too youthful for that, but her eyes look tired, like they're not quite focused on the here and now but instead looking off into a long, dreary corridor.

"Morning." she cuts off whoever it is that happens to emerge from the other rooms (or mirror).

[Will Stanton]

"Mor..." Will said, cut-off before she can really begin. She blinked a couple times.

"Can I get you..." she started, again.

[Miriam Bell]

"...anything? Coffee? Tea? A sunnier disposition?" she sighs. "No Will, you cannot."

[Will Stanton]

Will cocked her head to the side with an eyebrow raised, and then shook it off.

"Get up on the wrong side of the..."

[Miriam Bell]

"...coffin? Yes. Look, can we not do this song and dance for once? It's getting tiresome."

[Will Stanton]

Will frowned, then shrugged. "I hope your day gets better from here on out," she said.

[Miriam Bell]

"I've just had this conversation too many times. And frankly, you're not going to remember me being rude anyway.'

[Will Stanton]

"Now, that's not true. We all share memories when we get back into the mirror," Will protested.

[Samantha McManus]

"Nnh," Sam mutters as she steps muzzily out into the common room.

"Can you two...?"

[Miriam Bell]

"Keep it down enough not to wake you? Rarely. Sometimes I just don't leave my room or walk straight out the door." she says, increasingly exasperated with the situation for god knows what reason.

[Will Stanton]

"She's in a funk today. Funkier than usual," Will said, with a frown.

[Samantha McManus]

"She's allowed to be," Sam shrugs.

[Miriam Bell]

Miriam sighs, a deep and weary one. "It's the same funk as yesterday. And the day before that. And the day before that. You two - or anybody else for that matter - just don't bloody remember because it's been the same god damn day over and over."

[Samantha McManus]

"...sure you didn't just fall asleep watching a Bill Murray movie?"

[Miriam Bell]

"Good one. Definitely haven't heard that before even if it usually comes from that general direction." she gestures at Will. "But sure, let's go over the list just so this conversation won't take several hours."

"It's not a dream because clock's make sense and books aren't full of gibberish. If it's a hallucination it's the most coherent one in existence because everything's consistent, I work out somebody's password, it still works the next time around. Same reason it can't be someone else messing with my head because there's no way anybody knows this much about every single person here and I've had you check my head. Multiple times. If it's a curse then neither your girlfriend, Wanda or even Erica can tell. I've had Ashlie check for black holes, chrono-whatever particles, that Skrull disc or any kind of time-machine she could theorize. There's nobody here that doesn't belong, there's no weird glitches or barriers around the school. Nothing changes unless I cause it to, everyone just... has a more or less normal one." she finishes catching her breath.

"And yes, I've tried having a heart-to-heart with Wanda. With you. Even with your bloody girlfriends. First as a cynical ploy in case it is some kind of weird moral training ground and then again simply because I'm just... lonely. Then that got erased and I'm just... too tired to try again right now. So I'm sorry if I'm in a bit of a funk."

[Will Stanton]

Will furrowed her brow. "Alright, so you're...slipping back through time.

Is it just you, or have you tried taking something with you?"

[Miriam Bell]

"It doesn't matter where I am or who I'm with. I tried staying awake but I couldn't tell you what happens, one moment I'm pounding coffee and watching the worst late-night TV has to offer, the next I wake up in the same bed on the same day, not even remotely tired. Not physically anyway."

[Samantha McManus]

"Okay, wait."

"Assuming we're taking this as happening which, apparently we are..."

"...does it end when you go to sleep, or is this that other movie where someone stabs you at the end?"

[Will Stanton]

"I mean, Miriam's not wild enough to come up with this wholecloth. Wrong sort of prank."

[Miriam Bell]

"If this involved me getting stabbed I would probably be in an even worse mood. Either I go to sleep or I just...black out? It doesn't feel like I'm passing out but suddenly I'm in bed, being woken by my alarm and it doesn't feel like two seconds ago I was doing something else entirely even though that's what I remember." she shrugs. Usually her shrugs are dismissive or disinterested but now they're more resigned.

[Will Stanton]

"I don't want to suggest a zillion things you've already heard before, but...have you tried blocking yourself off, somehow? The Tech Boys constructing some kind of room, or some kind of magical circle or whatzit?"

[Miriam Bell]

"We spend a day researching magic non-sense and drawing circles all over my room. But it's not me. I'm not getting thrown back to this morning, everyone does. I'm just the only one who actually remembers when everything resets."

[Will Stanton]

"Everyone everyone? Like, as far as you can tell, the world is getting reset? Or is it just, like, campus?"

[Miriam Bell]

"I'm not sure how I would even test that, but it's the same in Chelmsford, London, none of the TV or internet broadcasts from around the world change. It's the exact same day over and over again."

[Will Stanton]

"...How long?" Will said, after a moment of letting all that sink in.

[Samantha McManus]

"...well, you wouldn't know, would you?"

[Miriam Bell]

"I lost count, maybe a hundred? Or maybe I only started remembering partway through and it's been thousands, I have no idea."

[Will Stanton]

"Months and months of repeats..." Will muttered under her breath. "Jesus."

[Miriam Bell]

"Yes, I'm getting quite sick of it at this point. There's only so much I can distract myself..."

[Will Stanton]

"I'd offer to try to take your mind off of things, but that clearly isn't a solution..."

[Miriam Bell]

"Oh there's been plenty of that, solution or not. And I'm not quite at the point where I'm looking for more severe ways out. Well... I did walk out into the sun a dozen or so loops ago, not that it stuck but I'd be lieing if I hadn't thought about asking you to take me down to that pit of oblivion, Sam. Even if it's more comforting to have the hope of a potential out than actually considering it and, this might be strangely sentimental, but if this would keep happening either way then being here to witness it... it sits better with me than the idea of all of you being unknowingly, unchangingly trapped."

[Samantha McManus]

"So why are you the one that's awake? Are you some sort of blind spot for whatever's doing this?"

[Miriam Bell]

"I... don't know" she says, but the comment seems to have pierced some of her resigned attitude. "But I hadn't thought about it like that before. Maybe technically being dead does have something to do with it? I'm not sure how but it's something new at least."

[Will Stanton]

"It is what sets you apart. Sam's alive; all the alive people get rebooted. I'm not a person; all the non-people get rebooted. You're a dead person. The exceptions sometimes can fall through the cracks."

[Samantha McManus]

"Let's say you weren't picked, per se. You were missed. Someone is trying something, and they'll keep trying it until they get it right."

"So if this is a curse, it wouldn't show up on you, aye? Someone rolls back time and the curse is that 'no living thing will be the wiser' and here we are."

[Miriam Bell]

"That really begs the question of how magic would know what constitutes a 'living thing' but that's just one of the reasons why magic is terrible." she rolls her eyes.

"But you're right, which... wait wait wait, hold up. You think somebody is actively doing this?" she circles around to the other part of Sam's theorizing.

[Samantha McManus]

"Well, if we're going to take as given that some sort of time loop like this is possible, we have to accept that someone might cause one on purpose. To accomplish something. It makes a lot of other things make sense, doesn't it?"

[Miriam Bell]

"It makes some things make a little more sense. But that's a lot more than the absolute nothing I have. Okay, let's assume for a moment that this is true. How do we find who's causing this, much less stop them?"

[Samantha McManus]

"You've lived this day consciously more than anyone but our theoretical culprit."

"What happens today that doesn't happen any other day?"

[Miriam Bell]

"I'll refrain from the pedantic, philosophical answer to that." she starts before interjecting a "You're welcome."

"But meaningful things? I'm not sure. I could go over the general layout of the day, god knows I've had plenty of time to commit it to memory. If I don't do anything in the morning you and Tereza go to breakfast together and then class. Viv sleeps in and goes to wander the woods. Extremely boring, by the way. Most people pass through the cafeteria, it's been kind of my default hub to watch people and pick who to talk to and divert from their pathing for the day."

"Wanda isn't there, she shows up later in the day because she's avoiding the construction going on. The sculptor is still working on Katarina which is why Leo looks like shit. Him and his boy-toy get into... not a fight but just kind of an argument in the food-line until Emilie hurries them along. Tosh is doing some science stuff and ends up late for one of his classes because he's doing diagrams of some kind of drone-copter. There's a Will being one of the tables in the cafeteria but unless I go to bother him she just sits there all day despite the fact that Trev spills scrambled eggs all over himself and the table." she stops herself when she realizes that none of this is helpful.

"There's really not a lot that goes on that's actually noteworthy. Classes, some people help out with the community center thing. I've noticed I can't find a couple of people on campus, but I figure they're probably elsewhere. The little cat-bird is missing, Weaver. Victor is nowhere to be found, probably sitting somewhere being one inch tall. The invisible twat is still gone but that's hardly new. The bodyguard is gone as well and Kinney is missing her motorcycle."
