Room 102: Risky Business

Leo needed to talk with Ainsley about the risks of helping Katarina. It was too big of a decision to make alone. So after leaving Ciseluer, he didn't wait around to come knocking.

Ainsley was there, and of course let him in.

"What's up luv?"

After coming inside, Leo moved towards the common area couch and said, "Mister Ciseluer dropped a bomb on me about the last steps of helpin' Katarina and I really don't know how I feel about bein' a part of it."

Ainsley sighed.

"There's always a catch, isn't there?" He replied frowning. "What's this one?"

"He has to melt her further to cast her fixed face and have it work with her powers. Which could kill her if things don't go just right. But he has to risk it, otherwise, she's stuck as a defaced statue for the rest of her life."

"And you want my input on the matter?"

"Well, yeah. You're too important to me to risk ending up in prison for manslaughter at best without talkin' to you first. I know it's the right thing to do, and as exhausted as he clearly is he can definitely use the help, but I'm honestly terrified of ending up in a cage again, not to mention a death on my conscience."

Ainsley was quiet for a very long time. He was mulling over the information he'd been provided.

"I think the death itself is the obviously higher problem... But I also don't think this is a decision I can help you make.

If I tell you I don't want you to do it, and something happens to Katarina, you will forever link you having not done it to what I said.

And if I tell you to do it, and you end up killing her... Well... Then I'm responsible for sending you to prison. "

He sighed heavily. "You're right. You can't. I just... damnit, either decision I make I could regret forever. I could screw up or he could out of sleep deprivation."

"And I don't want to let fear of bein' caged decide for me either. I want to be stronger than that. And God that terrifies me."

Silence again, as he thought. And then-

"If you live under that fear, you're going to live under it forever, no matter what decisions you make. It will rule your life, beyond just what decision to make here today.""

"I know that. And I already made my appointment to start therapy again. I'm tired of bein' a coward when it comes to fixin' my shit."

"What do you think you should do then?

I think that when we are in these positions, it's best to listen to our hearts to decide, provided the person considering the nature of things has a good one."

He was quiet for a long moment as he listened to his metaphorical heart.

"I think I'd feel worse havin' done nothin'."

"Me either. Who's going to keep doling out all those muscle compliments you sustain yourself on?" Alright now he was just being a sass.

"Why don't you come here for a closer look so you can give me more then," he smirked, patting the couch for Ainsley to sit with him.

" You got this. Make art.

Then come back when you're done if you're not too tired and we'll see about a reward."

Leo was soon back out the door, with a revitalized spring in his step. The fact that he was in love was blatantly obvious, even if he wasn't brave enough yet to say it.

Ainsley was indeed in, and answered. He had a look of concern on his face as he awaited an answer from Leo.

"No, no, this is good news. Katarina made it through in one piece... if a bit worse for wear," he said, obviously very relieved.

He returned the hug, softly stroking the smaller boy's back.

"Usin' this strength of mine to help people feels right."

"And I'm... sorry I'm always makin' you worry about me."

"I'm your boyfriend. It's my job to worry about you.' He replied, his face smooshed a bit into the chest of the much larger young man.

"Taking care of others isn't giving me reasons.

At least, not needless reasons. There's always going to be a needful reason to worry. You just can't avoid that.
