Xaviers!

It's late at night when a winged silhouette awkwardly lands on the windowsill outside. After a couple of moment the window slides open with a faint creak until it's open enough to let Nailah climb inside. Her clothes and wings look dirty and she's sporting a couple bruises here and there. She turns around to close the window again, wincing when it makes a noise again. Finally she makes her way over to her side of the room with a slight limp. Undoing her belt she tosses it onto her desk before collapsing onto her bed.

One of Kayla's hands lights on fire as she hears the thump. Once she sees who it is, the fire dies, "You know, most people come in through the door."

Nailah actually spins around and brings up her hands as if to defend herself when the fire flickers to live, not immediately relaxing when it dies simply because she suddenly can't see too well anymore and she's still pretty wired. "Didn't want to rouse any suspicions sneaking in through the front doors..." she says somewhat apologetically.

"So you raise suspicions by sneaking in the window," she teased.

"Just yours though. You're not gonna tell anybody, are you?" Nailah is trying to be nice around her roommate, but a little bit of animosity always seems to sneak in. She just had some bad experiences with pyrokinetics.

"Who would I tell?" Kayla said. "That's assuming you're not doing anything illegal."

"What? No! No no no, nothing illegal."

"Then there's nobody I need to tell," she said, dropping her head back to her pillow. There was a brief moment of silence and then Kayla propped her head up on her hand, "What are you doing?"

"Just... going to London to catch criminals?" she admits a bit awkwardly. Somehow she has no problem gloating when she's in the middle of things, but this is after the fact, this is where she sleeps and somehow it feels like she's more vulnerable here. As if she's off-script.

"Wait... seriously?"

"Yeah..." she says carefully, not sure whether or not Kayla's reaction is positive or not.

"Cool. I can certainly respect someone who's willing to do that."

"Oh good." she grins, suddenly feeling like she's on safer terrain. "I'll try not to wake you up in the future."

"Don't worry about it," Kayla said. "Somebody's got to be out there fighting the good fight. Heaven knows I'm certainly not capable of it."

"Yeah, setting stuff on fire is pretty harsh on people. Well, most people."

"Yeah, lighting me on fire doesn't do much except make me mad because you messed up my clothes," she said with a laugh.

"Yeah, but for everybody else it sucks."

"Supposedly, I might be able to moderate the intensity to make it less sucky, but you are right for the most part."

"Well, you're not throwing it at people in the first place, so that's a good call."

"Haven't had reason to yet. I imagine I might have a reason someday."

"Better be a good one." she mumbles as she climbs into her bed.

"Maybe if we have a problem with imps again," Kayla said, laying back down.

"Well... those guys probably deserve it." she's forced to admit.

A couple days later...

Nailah enters the room with Onyx in tow. She heads over to the windows and after a quick glance outside pulls the curtains closed.

"Okay, I think we're good."

"Thanks," Onyx says, visibly relaxing.

"Okay so what's up? What did you notice? Is it more of the Rising Sons?"

"I do not know, ma'am," Onyx admits. "I do not think so. They are just...watching me. The Rising Sons would be more direct than that."

"Who is watching you? Did you spot anybody?"

"Not directly. They are well-trained," Onyx says. "But I have seen the same car following me around town. The glare of a high-powered lens in a few windows..."

"Hmm. Are you sure someone's actually following you? I see the same cars around in town all the time. It's just not that big a city..."

Onyx bristles a bit at the suggestion, "I know when I am being followed."

She sounds defensive.

"Okay, okay. Sorry. This is just so... vague. I wish there was someone to catch. Maybe we should go look for that car."

"Go on the offensive?" Onyx says. "...That might be the best idea."

"However, it may tip them off though and cause them to accelerate their plans."

"So? You'd rather let them go about their plans at their own pace? Nu-uh. Surprise quiz, buttholes!"

Onyx smiles, "Alright. Then, I will act as bait. We will plan a route through town that should expose anyone following me. Once they are revealed, it will be up to you to strike before they notice you."

Nailah nods. "I'm not very sneaky, but I can stay on the rooftops. We could bring the earpieces Miss Kinney gave us to coordinate."

"It is a good plan," Onyx says. "People rarely look up when checking for tails."

"Awesome. When do you think they're most likely to show up?"

"The daytime. During night patrol, I travel too quickly across the rooftops," Onyx says. "There's too much of a chance I would spot them."

"I need to stay on ground level and move slowly. Predictably. Like I am window shopping."

"Sounds like a plan. Really, you should just go window shopping and I'll shadow you." she chuckles.
