The day after getting a blast from the past, Shari finds herself knocking on Cam's door. "Hey, Doc, you home?"

"Yes yes yes, come in."

This might be the first time Shari had ever seen Cam NOT fidgeting. He sat, cross-legged on his bed, staring at the wall.

Shari comes in and looks at him. Then at the wall. Back to Cam. Then she moves over to stand next to him and looks back at the wall.

"I'm missing something..." she concludes.

"The sheer amount of what other people miss is staggeringly large in magnitude," Cam muttered, turning around.

"Was there....is there something you need, Shari?"

"Maybe. I mostly just wanted too see if you got anything that needs doing..."

"At the moment, no. It's all trashed.

I was working on a device that would help try to restore your lost memories, but the....jackasses here broke it and left. Cruel, heartless people here."

"Dude, seriously...? That's kinda cool of you. Not so cool that people are breaking your stuff. Who was it? I could jack some of their stuff. Or at least toilet-paper their room."

"I have no idea. Some girl of some description," he shrugged. "Nothing notable. Just another passing face."

"You really don't pay peoples' faces much mind, huh? I mean... you did notice mine changed, yeah?"

"Hrm?" Cam said, looking at her. "Oh, yeah, I guess it did. Why'd you do that?"

"It's just what I do. You build stuff, I change my face. Most people think it's shady, cause... I dunno. They're used to everyone being locked into one face. Their original one. I guess that's what I'm trying out right now..."

"I remembered some stuff. It's... kinda messed up to be honest. But I figured I'd try to put a face on it and try it for a while. Kinda." she says with bit of a cringing smile.

"I guess not... But it was pretty sweet you were working on that."

Cam looked away at that. "Just trying to advance scientific progress. Nothing more."

"Hrm? Agreement?

Oh, of course. Why would getting your memories back change anything? I'll still need someone to do all the grunt work when necessary. Of course. I can't be bothered to stoop down to it."

"Yeah, why would that change anything." she says with... almost a relieved chuckle. "Hey, what's with all the stuff in the boxes anyway? The guy who lives in the dorm kinda came back, so I shoved most of it into the closets. Are those, like, components or stuff you build or what?"

"Hmm, your roommate came back? That could be a problem," Cam frowned. "I was looking forward to using that space.

It's raw materials -- a bunch of early, half-formed inventions, remnants of others, various wires and circuit boards for use in a pinch. A lot of it is probably garbage, but you never know when you can re-purpose something."

"Can't you, like, build a shrinkray or something? Make it all fit on a shelf."

"Yeah. Problem is, it doesn't STAY shrunk. After too long, the molecules return to their normal size, or worse."

"Exploding closet, bad, okay. But how long are we talking? Couple hours? Days? Weeks?"

"It depends on a wide number of variables," he said, waving his hand. "But primarily, the fact that they need to be frequently observed.

...By me. It doesn't work if I'm not there.

YET. It doesnt' work YET," he hastily corrected.

"Huh. What you need is some kinda gizmo that makes you be there without being there."

Re: Room 106 - Reporting for Duty

by Cam Beckett
"Issue is, that gizmo likely wouldn't work without me being there in and of itself. You'd have to have a fractalized system with multiple, interrelated redundant backup processes."

"Was that a compliment? I mean, in Cam-speak?" she smiles despite the obvious insult. Giving people shit to paper over insecurities was something she could kind of understand. In a way her turning down obviously needed help falls into the same general idea as Cam being a boisterous social-idiot.

"It's just a fact. Though we'll have to see if there's enough room for facts in your head now that you have all of those memories and things back in there."

"Pretty sure that isn't how that works. I... think it might help, actually. I used to help some pretty terrible people with their... stuff. Kind of. I mean, not really applicable I hope, but, you know. You don't really build shit that hurts people."
