"Might be a good thing to get used to. If you're ready, we can head down to Maldon and at least wander around for a while."

"...at least you're not subjecting me to Christmas shopping," she says as she steps out and locks the door.

"I've already done most of my Christmas shopping," she says with a half-grin, spinning a set of official looking car keys in her hand.

*** After The Vampire Raid ***

Erica pops into appearance in a chair in Isolde's room. She's dressed for an evening in her club.

Isolde is seated on the bed reading something as Erica arrives. She looks up from her book and curls a lip.

"A little warning is always nice, you know."

"This method of communication doesn't lend itself to warnings," she says, "Aside from which, I have some sad news to impart. It seems Michael is no longer among the unliving."

"Ah, such a pity," she says with a toothy smirk.

"I can tell it's upset you greatly."

"I am absolutely beside myself, my dear." She rubs her thumb across her nails as she studies them. "He's even beyond my abilities. I tried to call up his spirit to... commiserate, but not even a blip."

"It's possible," she says with a shrug, "Maybe I'll... ask around. It's a shame you're locked up here. I'd offer you a drink if you were at my club."

"Well, it's only fair. You have a different concept of what constitutes 'aged' when it comes to drink." She flicks her nails a bit, "Now that certain contracts have been... appropriately discharged, I can get back to better, more important business."

"I warned it that I was specifying the escape clauses," she shrugs, "It's certainly not happy with me, but I picked up a few tricks for dealing with its kind."

She shrugs, "We've both learned some things I would wager. But as learning is a never-ending process, I should figure out which of Michael's remaining children was the competent one and put a stake in them."

"Well that's always been true, hasn't it? There's always a few of those. The justifications change, but Michael could hardly have been surprised to see them..."

"Truly a Christmas miracle," she says with a slight smirk. "You do have family in the area now though. And I hear there's a 'child of earth' who is in need of a new guardian."
