"We think the evidence of your past should be enough to damn you a hundred times over... but the child has chosen you, so you have the opportunity to prove us wrong."

"There have been far too many surprises where this child is concerned."

"Of course not. We are very interested in the world continuing as it is supposed to, at least until it's time for it to stop. I'm just here to let you know that while her choice is made, we very much consider your status probationary."

"The Dark may have retreated, but that is only to lick its wounds. With a child this close to the nexus, they likely consider it too large of a threat and seek to remove her. Without a guardian, they will succeed. See that they don't. If you can manage that, we will bow to the child's choice."

"We shall see. What came after her before managed to kill one of Urd's children. She was as experienced are you are and knew what she was facing. No one is invincible."

The woman just makes a thoughtful noise and moves towards the door. "Good luck to you, guardian. I would be amused to be proven wrong about you."

"I should hope you do not need to see me again. That would mean you had failed." As she stepped out of the door she faded from sight, leaving no trace behind.

Isolde hasn't been all that talkative since she carried Wanda up to her room. As she said, it's fairly sparse, with not much in the way of belongings. The bedspread is almost assuredly the university's.

As Wanda wakes up, she sees a large black wolf still curled on the floor nearby.

Wanda props herself up on her elbow, "You could have shared the bed, you know. You didn't have to sleep on the floor."

"You needed it. I've slept on worse," she says, lifting an ear.

"Yes, yes, and you've walked to the store uphill both ways in the snow," she says, adjusting her position on the bed to make as much room as was possible. "Now get up here. I can't have my guardian stiff from sleeping on the floor."

Isolde hesitates, but ultimately does climb into the bed.

She shows no sign of shifting back just yet, but her pelt is already filling in compared to what Wanda saw earlier.

"...happy?"

"For the moment," Wanda says, moving her arm across Isolde's back as she lowers her head back onto the pillow. "Your coat is really nice."

Wanda smiles, "And I shouldn't be so pushy, but I can't help it." She polite averts her eyes from the change, not sure Isolde wants her to see that again.
