"Do you often get these flashes of insight?" Melody asks. She gets up and starts looking through some of her files, looking for what the school has on Nailah.

"A little more often, recently. I used to just get hunches but now they're starting to feel like... a series of steps? Go there, do that, kiss your friend." she says and from her facial expression it's clear she didn't mean to bring up that last one. The files the school has one Nailah just say she has enhanced reflexes and agility.

"Do you ever have visions? Knowledge about things you shouldn't have?" Melody asks.

She shakes her head. "I made a makeshift stretcher and I just knew that if I wanted to do that I'd have to go to one of the doors in the hallway. There were brooms in there that I used, but I didn't know what was gonna be there or that there even was an utility closet there. I just knew that if I wanted to make a stretcher then that's where I had to go. And then I knew that I had to take the brooms. But it's all... in sequence. I don't really know what I'm doing as I'm doing it."

"I have an idea," Melody says. She starts rifling through her desk. "What do you know about the Tarot?"

"Isn't that, like, kooky card reading?"

"Exactly!" Melody says. "People say that divination using cards goes back to ancient Egypt and early pagan religions, but the truth is that they're much more modern. Originally, they were just playing cards used for various games. They didn't start being used for divination until around the 15th century."

Melody places three cards on her desk, face down.

"Can you tell me where the High Priestess is?"

Nailah looks at the stack of cards for a moment, then shakes her head. "No. I mean I could guess?"

Melody shakes her head, "No. That's what I expected, actually."

"What would be the best card for you to pick?" Melody asks. "Don't worry about what the card is, just which one would be the most helpful for you to choose right at this moment."

"I dunno. None of them, really. I mean... I get what you're saying, but I still don't know where it is."

"Well, maybe I'm wrong," Melody says. "Or maybe the stakes aren't high enough. I'll have to think this over a bit more."

"No, it's just... Hang on, I'll show you. I want to know where the High Priestess is, right?" she says and goes with the flash of insight that comes with it, sweeping the stack of cards off the edge of the desk with the back of her hand. In the same motions she grabs at the ensuing flutter of cards, plucking one of them out of the air. She holds it up without looking at it. "Found it."

Melody claps, "Very impressive!"

"One of the best displays of precognition that I think I've ever seen," Melody says.

"The ability to see the future," Melody says. "Or possible futures, at least."

"It seems to be reflexive," Melody says. "It's probably where your enhanced reflexes come from. You've been using a very short-term version of it to avoid danger without even thinking about."

"Now the ability is intensifying. You're starting to see further into the future," Melody explains. "Specifically, which actions will result in the best outcome for yourself."

"I'm not seeing anything though. I'm just doing the right thing to do whatever. I don't even think it has to be beneficial to me. I... kinda don't wanna test that though, because it's really uncomfortable to not follow my gut."

"I wouldn't suggest it anyway," Melody says. "And 'seeing' is more general than I'm making it sound. It's more like a version of accelerated probability. You're 'reading' potential outcomes to make decisions."

"I'm going to make a note in your file about this, if it's okay with you," Melody says. "I think it's something you should try developing in a power control class."

"As for your other problems," Melody says. "Let's be blunt about this. Do you want to be Onyx's girlfriend? I'm not asking if you want to be a lesbian or anything else, just if you want to be with her."

"I... guess?" she flounders a bit at the sudden change of topic. "I mean we're already partners, so we spend a lot of time together anyway. I just don't wanna ruin that somehow..."

"There is always going to be risks," Melody says. "But the two of you obviously already have feelings for one another. Those won't go away by just ignoring them or pretending nothing happened."

"No one does, Ms. Weaver," Melody says. "The first time I met my husband, I was in a cage and he was researching me. Relationships are messy things."

She smiles sadly, "You should enjoy the time you have. Go on dates. Have fun. Don't be afraid to laugh at your mistakes. Talk with her about what you want and listen to her about what she wants."

"But most of all, trust yourself. Alright?"
